Did you know that striations, or scratches, like this in your metal surface - cannot be blasted out of existence? You can blast them and more or less blend them in, but when you go to smooth the surface, they will reappear. You have to tackle these head on. Not all holes are created equal, but the burrs inside still need to be removed. Angled holes. And deep holes. Cross holes too, as well as threaded holes. If the components do not have flat surfaces so that they can be clamped in a vice or against a stop, then locating pins are a great alternative. Position two of these locating pins on your machine table or a fixture, and drill two corresponding holes on the underside of your components, and precise alignment is really quick. The ball attachment or flattened versions are available so that the component slides more easily onto the locating pins. However, as soon as the component is fully seated on the locating pin, it is optimally aligned and positioned.
