onsemi has announced a multi-year investment plan, committing up to $2 billion to bolster the #supplychain of advanced power semiconductors. This investment aims to cater to the needs of both #European and global markets. In an interview with Power Electronics News, Ales Cab, Vice President and General Manager Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, onsemi, highlighted how the expansion of their production capabilities in the Czech Republic will enhance the entire manufacturing process of #siliconcarbide (#SiC) #semiconductors, from boule growth to the power module. SiC is renowned for its superior technical features and advantages, which include higher #thermal conductivity, higher electron mobility, and lower power losses compared to traditional silicon semiconductors. During our recent UHDI forum we stressed the need for cooperative efforts for developing new electronic packaging materials, equipment and processes. We mentioned collaborative work between Uyemura and Japan's Resonac. Resonac is now promoting its newly expanded Packaging Solution Center for "open innovation through co-creation". The company provides semiconductor materials for the front-end process, back-end process, and substrates as well as dry film photoresists and materials to make PCBs. Hidenori Abe, General Manager of the Electronics Business Headquarters R&D Center, said that industry is now focusing on advanced packaging and mounting technologies in the back-end process, and that Resonac is aiming to strengthen horizontal collaboration (even with competitors) globally to contribute to the early realization of leading-edge packaging technology through co-creation that promotes open innovation.
