This way for Better PR It’s B Corp Month, and here at PRN we're taking a moment to look back on how far we've come in our journey towards becoming a better and more sustainable business. Getting our B Corp certification wasn't just about getting a badge. It was about showing the world that we're serious about being the best PR agency we can be, not just in terms of our work, but also in terms of our values and our impact on the world. Our partnership with Furthr | B Corp™ has been a total game-changer. They've helped us put sustainable practices in place and get involved in projects that make a real difference. This journey to do good and be better has taken a lot of time and effort across the team, but it's also been really rewarding. We've learned so much - from the many ways our business can impact the economic and social well-being of the communities in which we operate, to how to both measure and understand our own environmental impact. We’ve made a lot of progress, and we're not stopping there. By the end of 2024, we're aiming to hit a B Impact Score of 100. That's a pretty ambitious goal, especially with B Corp updating its standards and tools for measuring impact this year, but we're up for the challenge. So let's celebrate B Corp Month together. Winning awards often don't mean anything. From time to time, i get approached by people who want to make news about their awards. "Why didn't I get media coverage? I won this award..." Here's why most awards will not get media coverage: 🏆 Everyday, someone gets an awards somewhere across the world. 🏆 Most awards are paid. It's seen as a marketing tactic It's not news. 📰 When will awards get coverage? Maybe, if a government minister handed you an award. Or Its an award that everyone recognises e.g. Forbes 30u30 and you're one of the rare few in your country to recieve it. Happy #NationalSmallBusinessDay! This is also a good day to remember the wide range of 'themed' (non-federal) holidays that exist—from the serious to the silly—which may offer your business additional opportunities for PR and marketing content.    Today, for example, also happens to be National Shrimp Day, Clean Your Room Day, Trust Your Intuition Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day and World Lupus Day. Whatever your business, you can probably find at least one holiday that relates to you, or around which you can structure some outreach or special events. B2B, professional service providers and nonprofits will no doubt gravitate more towards the more serious and issues-based holidays, but even they can sometimes take a moment to play (e.g., a bank or credit union might offer free, bank-branded cupcakes to everyone who comes in and opens a new account on National Cupcake Day). So, if you're a small business, why don't you consider posting something today? ~It can be as simple as wishing everyone a Happy National Small Business Day, "from one small business to others!" with some art to accompany. ~Pen a more thoughtful and personal post about some aspect of your experience (your origin story, how you overcame a challenge, lessons learned, etc.) as a small business founder. ~Or you might simply use the holiday to gently remind your followers of the importance of supporting small businesses such as yours. You should already have a content calendar that you use to plan and schedule a steady stream of PR, thought leadership and marketing content. If so, consider saving some space for holiday-themed PR. While it certainly shouldn't be your first priority, it can make for some useful or simply feel-good filler. The various International Days of awareness creates a nudge for organisations to build a DEI agenda around these Days and take some action that they can showcase on social media. While these ‘Days’ give a boost to DEI initiatives are they also turning into plain lip service? Are we getting too focused on ‘Days’ and losing out on making longer term sustainable impact?

Please say hello to YPN Steering Committee Board Chair Cristie Douglas! She is a marketing assistant at Andrews Hooper Pavlik PLC. As we celebrate the YPN's Sweet 1️⃣6️⃣ this year, we're asking current and past Members to share their insight about the program. Here are Cristie's thoughts... 1️⃣Why did you join the Saginaw County YPN? ▶️I have lived in Saginaw since 2004 but worked outside of the community. In 2017 I was blessed with a career at AHP and a few short months later I joined the YPN. The idea of a group of people around my age who only wanted to improve where we live while making connections sold me in seconds. This organization is a blessing for anyone who wants to make lasting friendships and career development. 2️⃣Tell us about your most memorable moment as a Member of the YPN. ▶️Creating our YPN mural was the absolute best. It provided the opportunity to really get to know my fellow YPNers and grow friendships while creating something beautiful in the community. 3️⃣The YPN's mission is to support the attraction and retention of young talent to the Saginaw Valley and Great Lakes Bay Region while developing the next generation of leaders. Tell us about how the YPN fulfills this mission, in your opinion. ▶️The YPN does nothing but attract and retain young talent in our region. The organization offers something for everyone. I believe for individuals not having a strong supportive foundation whether it be they’re on their own or just moved to the area, YPN offers that sense of belonging and welcomes all with open arms. 4️⃣What wishes do you have for the YPN as it moves into its next 16 years? ▶️I hope more businesses in the community understand the value of YPN and allow their employees to join and participate in its activities. Being in YPN grows your business network with others around your age. You’re all growing up together, so why not help each other’s businesses in the process. I hope that businesses will decide to start sponsoring more YPN events to help the program grow and succeed for years to come. I hope there will always be a place for those in need of networking and friendship for the younger generation.
