With the near-space race heating up of late, especially the ongoing jostling between the usual suspects in the black barrier area, seems quite odd that across various Chinese OS reporting, several are rehashing last year’s headlines. China’s 2023 precise tracking, measurement and accurate location of a hypersonic object then (including Shenzhou XV), is getting top billing again now. Given that Xi has probably seen that Putin’s hypersonic arsenal is less than, shall we say, expected, maybe it’s time to do a bit of PRC puffing up China’s fifth military force command ie space, in light of the USN’s recent reporting of their expanding anti-surface HALO (Hypersonic Air Launched Offensive) abilities? Or maybe it’s just another distraction from Taiwan?

A recent exercise in the Pacific region provided the U.S. military and international partners one of the first chances to truly game out the Pentagon’s new warfare concept for connecting forces and capabilities on a grand scale. Valiant Shield, which occurred in mid-June, is a biennial exercise focused on integration between the services in a multi-domain environment in the Pacific region. This year’s exercise, the tenth such event, involved multinational partners for the first time. 🇺🇸 #US military has demonstrated the capability to transmit Link 16 tactical data lines from space, a development expected to revolutionize military operations in the Indo-Pacific region. Link 16 is a military tactical data link network used by #NATO members and other nations. Link 16 enables military aircraft, ships, and ground forces to exchange their tactical picture in near-real time; it also supports the exchange of text messages, imagery, and voice (the latter on two digital channels: 2.4 kbit/s or 16 kbit/s in any combination). This breakthrough comes as part of efforts to counter #China's formidable Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) strategy, designed to keep US forces at bay in the event of a conflict, particularly over Taiwan.
