Warner Bros. Discovery has taken the Cartoon Network website offline, redirecting visitors to Max, its subscription-based streaming service. This move, which occurred on August 8, 2024, invites users to sign up for Max to continue watching their favorite Cartoon Network shows. The new Max landing page also features a Kids Profile with ratings restrictions and privacy protections, while Cartoon Network programming will still be available on TV and connected apps. The shutdown of cartoonnetwork.com reflects Warner Bros. Discovery’s shift in focus towards platforms with higher engagement and growth potential. The network will continue to offer 11 hours of programming daily on linear TV, but previously available content, including full episodes and free games, is now exclusively accessible via Max. This decision follows Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement to phase out the Boomerang streaming service by September 30, migrating content to Max. The move aligns with broader cost-cutting efforts and comes amidst a challenging financial period for the company, which recently reported a Q2 revenue decrease and a significant net loss. After an impressive 26-year run, the Cartoon Network website has officially shut down. The decision, steered by Warner Bros. Discovery, comes amidst the rise of streaming services and cost-cutting measures. Instead, visitors to cartoonnetwork.com are now redirected to Max streaming service, another Warner Bros. affiliate. For viewers in India, the main page leads to the Cartoon Network India's YouTube channel, given that Max services aren't available in the region. This move signifies an end of an era for fans worldwide. The Cartoon Network website, launched in July 1998, has been a source of entertainment for millions, airing popular shows like Teen Titans, The Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack. However, this shift doesn't signal the end of Cartoon Network. The network will continue to broadcast 11 hours of television content daily from 6 am to 5 pm. The goal now is to engage audiences more through social media and streaming services, providing them with the shows they love while exploring growth opportunities in these platforms. The transition may be bittersweet, but it reflects the changing dynamics of media consumption in the digital age. How do you feel about this change? Will you miss the Cartoon Network website or are you looking forward to the new streaming experience? #CartoonNetwork #StreamingServices

From the Journal: Paramount Global has held recent talks with Comcast about joining forces in streaming through a partnership or joint venture, among several potential strategic options the entertainment company is pursuing, said people familiar with the situation. #Paramount’s flagship service, Paramount+, is home to “Star Trek” programming, originals such as “1883” from superproducer Taylor Sheridan and simulcasts of CBS football games, while Comcast ’s Peacock is known for live soccer and football, originals like “Poker Face,” and a deep library with shows such as “The Office.” Bringing the two #streaming apps under one roof could produce significant cost savings—from spending on programming to marketing—and create a more in-depth offering for consumers, especially with regard to live #sports. A commercial partnership or joint venture are among the arrangements the companies could pursue. #Entertainment companies across the industry are exploring new streaming bundles and ventures to gain scale, attract more customers and help alleviate the costs of running their direct-to-consumer services amid declines in pay #TV subscribers. Last week, The Walt Disney Company ’s ESPN , Fox Corporation and Warner Bros. Discovery announced they were combining forces to create a sports streaming joint venture. Paramount and its parent company, National Amusements, have been exploring a range of potential strategic options in recent months as the entertainment company, owner of the Paramount Pictures movie studio and cable channels such as Nickelodeon Animation and MTV, faces continued headwinds in a #media industry dominated by bigger players.

Is it Taboo to Stretch a Screen? Anyone else get majorly bugged by letterboxing (those pesky black bars) on streaming services? Sometimes it gets so bad, I'm tempted to jump through hoops and find alternate means to use the "fill to screen". Seriously, why can't streaming apps like Amazon Prime, Disney+, or Max let us adjust the aspect ratio? This goes for Paramount+, Starz, and MGM+ too. On the other hand, basic third-party players like VLC, MX Player, Just Player, Night Player, Stremio, and Kodi all offer options like "Fill," "Fit to Screen," or "Stretch." TVs "allow" it, but it's a lackluster solution, usually just a partial or full zoom. YouTube does work with VLC using "Open Network Stream," but it's not the smoothest experience. I am a big fan of stretch, fit screen, and fill (But Not Zoom That Crops!): Stretching feels more immersive, and honestly, who wants black bars eating up screen space? Are most people purists where it's believed stretching the image is disrespectful to the director's vision, as it alters the intended aspect ratio. Preserving the aspect ratio ensures you see the film exactly as it was meant to be seen. #StreamingStruggles #MovieNightFail #FillTheScreen #AspectRatioDebate #HomeTheaterSetup #FilmTwitter #MovieLovers #Netflix #DisneyPlus #HBOMax #VLC #Kodi #Stremio #BlackBarsBeGone #TheStruggleIsReal #FirstWorldProblems

Will the new sport bundle revolutionise the U.S. TV market? ❗️Walt Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery this past week announced a new sports-only streaming joint venture that will offer viewers content from all the major college and pro sports, bundling together ESPN, ABC, Fox, TNT, TBS, and an assortment of other sports-focused networks. 🗣Effectively, the three companies are building a sports-based version of services like YouTube TV and Sling TV that offer digital alternatives to old-school cable. They’re removing news and entertainment programming from the cable bundle, leaving only sports behind. 💪Disney, WBD and Fox encompass about 5️⃣5️⃣% of U.S. sports rights. On August 8th, Cartoon Network beloved website was officially shut down by Warner Bros. Entertainment. Discovery, marking a significant loss in kid-friendly online spaces. The visitors are now being redirected to the Max streaming service. The site, once a hub for safe and fun entertainment with games, videos, and favorite shows, was taken offline as part of a broader strategy to consolidate content under the Max streaming service. With the entire site now behind a paywall, many families and children have lost access to this once-accessible online haven. Max offers parental controls through a Kids Profile with rating restrictions and additional privacy protections. However, many parents are concerned about the fact that this once kid-friendly space has been merged into a larger, adult platform. What do you think? Disney+, Hulu, and Max Are Bundling Their Streaming Platforms https://ift.tt/hlX54Zm The great consolidation of the industry continues as Warner Bros, in a bif to make money, will now attach Max to Disney and Hulu, creating another bundle that feels exactly like cable. The combined content will allow purchasers to watch ABC, CNN, DC, Discovery, Disney, Food Network, FX, HBO, HGTV, Hulu, Marvel, Pixar, Searchlight, and Warner Bros in ad-supported or ad-free plans. The Disney and Hulu merger of last year helped both companies, with subscriptions rising. Adding Max will give more options of r adults on the platform, and allow them to have access to both Marvel and DC Superheroes on the platform. There's also the idea of live sports, which Hulu already had, and Max shows through a TNT partnership. The move makes a ton of sense for Warner, who is trying to make as much cash as possible, as rumors swirl Zaslav could be selling the studio. Time will tell where more consolidation goes, but as we've pointed out, this is basically cable again. Let us know what you think in the comments.
