Do you want to get involved during Hunger Action Month? There are 5 simple ways to support the Squirrel Hill Food Pantry. ✅Donate produce from your own garden: Those zucchinis are out there, multiplying overnight, and there’s only so much zucchini one family can eat! We accept donations of fresh produce and shelf stable items, such as canned soup and vegetables. ✅Volunteer: You can volunteer with your family or your colleagues, just once, or once a week. SHFP is always in need of helping hands. ✅Organize a food drive: Food drive collections are especially great. Not only do they supplement the food supply, but usually food drives produce favorite brands and special items otherwise rarely available. ✅Host a High Holiday food drive: As you know, SHFP is the only kosher food pantry in the region, and the holidays are coming. Help make sure all of your Jewish neighbors are able to honor the holidays with dignity. ✅Make a donation to Squirrel Hill Food Pantry. Every dollar donated ensures that a family receives three healthy meals. St. Patrick Center food pantry needs your help! Their pantry provides a critical service to their clients, allowing them to shop weekly for food, toiletries, paper products and more. Their food pantry relies fully on the in-kind and financial contributions supplied by donors. Because the demand for the food pantry services is reaching record highs — around 350 clients benefitted from the food pantry in June — the food pantry stock is nearing depletion. With great urgency, I am asking for your help in the following ways: Donating food pantry and fresh/frozen items listed: Non-perishable boxed meals, rice dinners, soup and ramen, cereal, and canned goods are all in short supply. Our clients also benefit from pantry staples like sugar, flour, oil, and condiments. *TIP: They have refrigerators and freezers in the pantry, so your donation of meats, cheeses, eggs, frozen meals, bread, and cold cuts is gratefully accepted! Making a cash donation: If you are unable to make it to the donation center with the items being requested, please click here: https://shorturl.at/a3Htk to make an online gift using our secure giving platform. Your gift will be used in support of the food pantry It bears repeating: the cupboards are nearly bare — and that is not an exaggeration.

With Easter weekend coming up, RLC sends well wishes to all those who celebrate! 🐣 🍫 🍬 For many, Easter calls to mind baskets of candy, colorfully dyed eggs, and meals shared with loved ones. Last year, the category that U.S. consumers planned to spend the most on for the Easter holiday was food, at $7.3 billion nationwide. It was followed by clothing at $4 billion, gifts at $3.8 billion, and candy at $3.3 billion. This year, RLC challenges you to make sure fewer of your Easter purchases end up in landfills - especially food items. Here’s how: If you’re a business, one of the best things you can do is to donate leftover Easter products to a food rescue organization (like RLC), which will redistribute them to those in need. It’s such an easy way to brighten someone else’s holiday! The Food Donation Improvement Act releases you from liability when donating. Read more about protective legislation for food donors here: https://buff.ly/3PDZojl For individual households, consider repurposing or freezing Easter leftovers rather than discarding them. One of my favorite childhood breakfasts was scrambled eggs with leftover Easter ham and cheese. I looked forward to my dad making it every year. It’s a sustainable tradition that I can’t wait to pass down to my own family. This holiday weekend, feed people, not landfills. Anyone can reduce wasted food by being mindful and creative! #wastedfood #sustainability #foodinsecurity #foodrescue #donate #endhunger #excessfood *This post was created by a University of Rhode Island student named Hannah, who is generously volunteering her writing services to Rescuing Leftover Cuisine. Thank you so much for your support Hannah!

According to the United Nations, one-third of the world’s food is wasted. In the US, food waste is 40%—enough to feed 2 billion people. Yet, a recent food mapping study concluded that 1 in 8 Pennsylvanians in our own communities struggle to secure nutritious food. To address local food waste and insecurity, Eat Share has been exploring innovative ways to redistribute food to members of our communities. From this endeavor, we have developed Food Forward Donations. Our Food Forward initiative welcomes local restaurants, caterers, farmers, grocery stores and others to donate their excess food, rather than waste it. So far in 2024, Food Forward donations have provided meals to 29 appreciative families. Donations have included leftover prepared foods from events—like sandwiches, chicken, collard greens, pulled pork, mac and cheese, baked beans, and cookies—as well as frozen hams, pot roasts, and fresh garden veggies. Contact us anytime and Eat Share volunteers will collect your donations, package them into meals, and deliver locally. Hospitality Campaign Love Food Give Food Returns For Another Year Action Against Hunger's flagship restaurant campaign Love Food Give Food has returned this year, inviting diners across the UK to add £1 to their bill to support the charity’s humanitarian work. The campaign, which has united the food and hospitality industry for over a decade, continues to help millions of children around the world access essential nutrition. Will Macleod, fundraising and communications director at Action Against Hunger UK, said: “We are incredibly proud to see the food and hospitality industry come together once again in the fight against hunger. “This campaign is a powerful reminder that by simply enjoying a meal, restaurant-goers can help save lives. The support we receive from our restaurant partners and the public allows us to deliver critical interventions in communities where children are suffering from malnutrition. Every £1 donated truly makes a difference.” Now in its 13th year, Love Food Give Food will see 122 restaurants across the UK participate, with venues in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton and Glasgow. Over the years, the campaign has raised an £4.1 million to support Action Against Hunger's global efforts. In 2023, approximately 733 million people were impacted by hunger, which equates to one in every eleven people worldwide. If these trends continue, an estimated 582 million people will face chronic undernourishment by the end of this decade. Read More:

We'd love to increase your food donations for STEP! If you have extra food that needs eating (but is also unopened and not expired), bring it to the office and we'll trade you for a pizza cutter! Here's what they need: What we need: STEP is in need of the everyday non- perishable and household items you use every day in your household. Think or your favorite meal ingredients, the spices you cook with all the time, and the healthy foods you and/or your family eat on a regular basis. We also need those every day non-food household items like toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and cleaning products. What we don’t need: STEP does not accept perishable (refrigerated or frozen) items, used, open, damaged or outdated food. Please carefully check expiration dates before donating items to STEP.

The following guidelines can help you decide what to donate to a food drive or food pantry: 1. Consider a cash donation. Cash is useful to food banks and food pantries as they can generally buy quantities of food for less. They can also buy the items most needed by their clients. 2. It is important that donated food be safe and nutritious as possible rather than just what is in the back of your cupboard. In other words, don’t just “clean out your pantry”... donate food that meets their specific guidelines. 3. Purchase food specifically for the food drive using the organization's list, or think about what foods other families like yours might like to eat. Also keep in mind that food pantry and food bank recipients range in age from infants to elderly residents. 4. Donate retail-sized food containers. In other words, the size of items you’d pick up at your local grocery store for yourself or family. (not trial size or warehouse store size) 5. Donate food that is in its original package with the label intact — unopened and not damaged. 6. Do not donate food that is past its “best by,” “use by,” or “sell by” date. Although some food is still safe to consume after these dates it is best practice not to donate them. 7. If canned food has a sharp dent, a dent deep enough to rest a finger in, severe rust pits, swollen or bulging ends or any evidence of leaking, the food is unsafe to eat and should be discarded and not donated. Canned vegetables and meats with any size dent should be thrown away. 8. Because of the risk of botulism in improperly home-canned food and the large variation in the level of safety of the methods used by home canners, food banks and food pantries do not accept any home-canned goods. If you have any questions about this or would like to organize a food drive for Agape Center Lynchburg, please feel free to reach out to us and ask: [email protected] #fooddrive #foodpantry #donate #community #agapelyh #agapecenterlynchburg

National Food Bank Day was established to recognize food banks' vital role in fighting hunger nationwide. The first Friday of September is set aside to honor these critical organizations and to raise awareness about food insecurity. Van Hengel's innovative idea, sparked by the potential of recovering surplus food from grocery stores and restaurants, revolutionized the landscape of food outreach. His system, which swiftly collected and distributed food to those in need, gained rapid momentum, leading to the establishment of numerous food banks nationwide. This is a testament to the transformative power of a single idea. Here in Tucson, we're fortunate to have outstanding local food banks making a difference in our communities every day: ●The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona: serving Tucson & beyond, CFBSA offers a range of vital resources. These include food distribution, nutrition education, and advocacy, all aimed at alleviating food insecurity and promoting a healthier community. ●ICS (Interfaith Community Services): Offering food assistance & other supportive services to help individuals and families in need. ●Marana Community Food Bank: A branch of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, focusing on providing food and resources to those in the Marana area. Food banks in the U.S. distribute millions of pounds of food to families in need every year, making a huge impact on fighting hunger nationwide. National Food Bank Day is the perfect time to support your local food bank. Your help goes a long way, whether through donations, volunteering, or advocacy; together, we thrive! #tarsocial #tucsonrealtors #TARYPN #trcfsocial #tardiversity #tucsonarizona #realestate #realtorlife #deiwecare #diversitymatters #allwelcome #deiallwelcome #NationalFoodBankDay
