The 2024 Financial Alliance for Women Annual Summit starts tomorrow! A convening of CEOs and C-Suite changemakers in the financial, technology and policy sectors, the Summit is one of the world’s foremost knowledge exchanges highlighting what institutions can and are doing to champion the female economy. I look forward to speaking on the Opening Panel, together with Ann Cairns and Nadia Al Saeed moderated by Inez Murray on "Creating Diverse, Equitable & Inclusive Organizations." We urgently need more female leaders at the helm in finance and economic policymaking. Their diverse perspectives contribute to better business and policy decisions, higher profitability, and even greater economic and financial stability. However, the challenges of gender inequality in leadership are more nuanced between the public and private sectors. Today the FTSE Women Leaders Review shared an update on the representation of women in leadership among the FTSE 350 and 50 biggest private companies in the UK. KPMG UK are proud to be co-sponsors of the Review alongside Lloyds Banking Group, and we have been longstanding supporters of this initiative and its aims. The report shows that representation of women in leadership roles continues to increase. It was great to hear more about this from today’s speakers Avivah Wittenberg-Cox, Laura Needham, Denise Wilson, Elliott Rae, Penny James, Nimesh Patel, and Orna NiChionna. I am pleased that this year KPMG UK sits amongst the top ten private companies in the UK for gender diversity in our leadership, with 44% of our combined ExCo and direct report positions being held by women. It’s now important to maintain this momentum and attract and retain a strong pipeline of talented women from all backgrounds, who will become the leaders of businesses in the future. This is something we must all work towards as a business community.
