Changing marketing tactics and shaking things up at The Great Run Company. This is the first time I have seen a major race open their ballot before the current year's event has ran. It's a bold move - and I like it. Here's why: 😎 Innovation is key: it's good to try new things - it gives the opportunity to test, learn and improve. 😍 Emotional investment: opening the ballot BEFORE this year's race allows people to invest even more emotionally, imagining themselves - quite literally - in the shoes of those braving 13.1 miles, as the 2024 event unfolds. 🏃♂️Closing the gap: no more waiting to sign up. Excitement is captured at its peak, closing the gap between desire and action. 📣 Hype hype and more hype. Does the GNR need more people entering? Maybe not. Does it need to continue to raise it's brand profile, attract top-tier sponsorship and drive increased philanthropic giving for the causes it supports? Absolutely. 📏 Data-driven decisions. The effects of other initiatives and attribution aside, this change can be measured, analysed and impact demonstrated. 😁 It makes people happy! Give the people what they want! Customer-centricity at its best. I for one am here for the change, and yes - although I've yet to run this year's distance, I have already signed up for my chance to be there again in 2025. I’ve always had a passion for volunteering As a child, I used to sit with my Nan as she did shifts in the local charity shop “Take what you need in life Colette, but also give as much as you can” Her words resonate with me today. In all areas of my life When I can combine passions this is a win win for me. So when my weekly accountabilty run, Parkrun needs volunteers I’m there Those not familiar with parkrun this is a weekly FREE 5k run round your local park, that is timed. There are 100’s at these local events each week where you can walk, run or even race…! It has been cited in many people’s fitness journeys over the years, and is an amazing community of like minded people I run (and sometimes race…) Parkrun regularly. I also volunteer as a Marshall, timekeeper and this time round I was a funnel manager The events can’t go ahead without volunteers. So, at least once a month I hang up my trainers and don a high vis vest and contribute where I can When working with charities, I have to remind my heart that they are a business. They have P&L like the rest of us, they have staff, they have objectives, they have firm KPIs (the team at Cariad Marketing Limited love working with charities) Where possible I will always encourage participation to support the ones we work with, and the ones that are held dear to our clients What charities or organisations do you volunteer for? Participating in the Champagne & Oyster Cycling Club of Monaco’s Annual St. Tropez to Monaco Charity Bike Ride for the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation was an inspiring and humbling experience. As we pedaled through the stunning landscapes, it struck me how similar this journey is to the path companies take when striving for growth and success. Just like a long-distance ride, building and nurturing a business requires endurance, teamwork, and a clear vision of the goal. Fundraising for a charity and for a business share common threads. Both require: 1. A compelling story: Whether it’s a cause close to our hearts or a business vision, the story behind the effort motivates and mobilizes support. 2. Commitment and passion: Dedication to the cause or the business is vital. It’s the driving force that keeps us going, even when the journey gets tough. 3. Community and support: Success is never achieved alone. It’s the community’s support, whether it’s fellow cyclists, donors, investors, or customers, that propels us forward. 4. Milestones and goals: Setting clear milestones helps track progress and keeps the momentum alive, be it in fundraising or business development. Riding for the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation reminded me of the impact we can make when we align our efforts with our values. The funds raised will support projects that teach children essential water safety skills, potentially saving lives and empowering communities. Let’s carry the same spirit of dedication and purpose into our professional endeavors. Together, we can drive meaningful progress, whether it’s for a charitable cause or a business venture. Payment runs...! 4 times in the last fortnight when I've had to send a reminder about deposits to secure dates for events I've heard variations of "oh you missed this month's payment run" blink, blink I didnt miss anything, I dont know what anyone's schedule is Like anyone who provides events, hospitality etc I have terms and conditions for booking events. I even have reduced rates since the pandemic to help with fundraising, and I admit it also helped me as I didnt have to chase for payment before the event date...and sometimes afterwards due to payment run schedules *sigh* But now I'm doing it before the event is booked! Its not everyone, just a few. I've got dates booked through to November 2025, fabulously organised people making sure that a special date is theirs. Anyhooo with the frustration of hearing 4 times in the past fortnight about missing payment runs (dates released) I'm going to have a 30% flash sale starting this afternoon which will end on 30 June 2024 or until 4 events are sold, whichever comes first There are terms, conditions and exclusions Watch this space for more detail #events #fundraising #firewalk #firewalking #CorporateSupport

Well, 6 weeks to go before I leave for France on my Manchester to Paris charity bike ride in aid of the Ace Grace Foundation which in turn feeds through to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity. Still plans are around me heading right down the centre of the country from Manchester to Portsmouth- Portsmouth to Caen ( on the ferry of course before I get any jokes about me swimming it!) and then Caen to Paris- simple. My offer still stands to any organisation that takes up on of my #coaching courses where I will donate 20% of my #workshop fee to the charity on behalf of the organisation , instantly turning them into a corporate sponsor which gets their logo displayed at the start and end of the journey and a "shout out" on social media channels at the end of each day. I've recently joined We Ride 4 as a boardmember, and we've got some interesting challenges this year. First, WeRide4 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports other 501(c)(3) non-profits focused on getting kids outdoors and on bikes helmed by Sharon Madison. Think of her like a philanthropic super engine supported by 250+ active cycling members who love volunteering, fundraising and pedaling. Seen those pink and blue kits cruising around Colorado and Tucson? That's us. Bright, loud, and often pretty fast. We have weekly rides all over the Front Range, mountain bike rides (I lead a casual Wednesday loop at North Table in Golden, CO) and destination bike tours all over the country. But callback to those interesting challenges, here are a few things on the horizon through the end of this year. 1. The Big Event is the annual fundraiser for WeRide4. It's held at Audi Denver and features silent and live auction items, wine pull, and more. Tickets sell out every year, and WeRide4 gets more people on bikes as a result. (Ticket link in first comment.) 2. Our membership is growing, but we're always looking for new ways to engage. How can we do this? To me it's an easy sell: "Join our group. Enjoy great rides. Be part of a community. Support physical and mental health." Most of the people I know who ride bikes check off at least 3 of those 5 boxes. For me the question becomes: How can we communicate these benefits and get more members? 3. And finally, check out We Ride 4. That's a simple ask. Go to the website and see what we're doing. We think people as a whole benefit more with more people on bikes. There's a lot of evidence to prove this. If you're in Denver or Tucson, we've got a jersey for you.
