Senior Partner - Global Legal Practice Head | Head of In-House Attorney Recruitment (US) at Page Executive | 10 Years Exp. Recruiting In-House Counsel
Let’s talk about 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀. I often speak with candidates at the mid to senior level who are very particular about job titles. Some will say they’ll only move for a Director, Managing Director, SVP banding. Others will say they’ll only move for a General Counsel, Deputy or Head of Function role. Others at the more junior and mid-level will see a role titled Senior Counsel or Assistant General Counsel and hesitate to apply due to a misconception that they don’t have enough experience, simply based on the title. 💡 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙚’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜, an In-house legal department’s organizational hierarchy will vary from company to company, which means titles will be different at Company A and Company B. The caveat is that the Senior Counsel at Company A is working in the same role with the same responsibilities as the Deputy General Counsel at Company B. The Legal Counsel at Company A is doing the same work as the Associate General Counsel at Company B. Earth shattering revelation, I know. 🤯 🤯 🤯 Having been recruiting for in-house counsel for the past decade, I can assure you that if I’m reaching out to you about a particular role, it’s for a reason. The job description, org chart, structure, company, culture, people, compensation and benefits far outweigh the title in the long run. Job titles within the #inhouselegal market are nuanced. 📚 Don’t judge a book by the cover, and don’t judge a role by the title – you will be sure to miss out on some great opportunities if you base your interest solely on a job title. When you hire a lawyer, you're not just hiring a lawyer. What you're really hiring is a brand ambassador, business developer, client relationship manager, strategist, firefighter, project management specialist….*breathe*…. technology guru, Wing Attack in the office mixed netball team, and “provider of such other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time”, who just happens to have a law degree. A lot of the work done by in-house legal teams does not require a legal background. That's a problem in itself. When hiring, think about the skills you *actually* need someone to have, and be open to people who might have acquired them in fields outside the law. #lawyers #legalcareers #hiring

Wall Street's Best Connected Legal Executive Recruiter ~ Retained Search for Impactful Law Department Leaders ~ [email protected]
𝗜𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲? I've seen both sides of this question. Hiring exceptional general counsel and in-house counsel isn't simply a matter of intuition or networking. Nor is it a purely rational process of data and methodology. The art lies in discerning a candidate’s deeper qualities: their motivation, personality, and vision for the role. It also involves understanding an organization's distinctive culture and how the candidate can complement it. The science aspect involves diligent research and strategic networking, using proprietary and public databases, and analyzing market data and compensation trends to pinpoint ideal candidates. This leads to well-informed, strategic hiring decisions. Successful legal talent acquisition combines both art and science. It requires deeply knowing people and effectively using data. I see art as the destination and science as the route to get there. The two work hand-in-hand. My role as a legal executive search professional sits at the heart of this combination. At Major, Lindsey & Africa, my team and I do more than fill positions. We help businesses grow and transform with strategic GC and in-house counsel hires. We match companies with leaders who shape their future and align with their values. 🤝 Is your legal team ready for such a transformative leader? Contact me to explore how we can help. #GeneralCounsel #InHouseCounsel #ExecutiveSearch #LegalRecruitment #TalentAcquisition

Earlier this week I shared a selection of open head of legal ops roles. Here are some openings at the other side of the spectrum: associate, coordinator, and specialist. ⚡️ Legal Operations Associate at Anduril Industries: $72k–$108k ⚡️ Legal Operations Associate at EvenUp: $50k–$65k ⚡️ Legal Operations Coordinator at INSPYR Solutions: $45k–$52k ⚡️ Legal Operations Specialist at Medallia: $71k–$121k ⚡️ Senior Legal Operations Specialist at The Rockefeller Foundation: $98k–$132k ⚡️ Legal Operations Associate at Underdog Fantasy: $65k–$85k ⚡️ Senior Specialist, Legal Operations, Preferred Provider Program at The Walt Disney Company: $77k–$103k Observations: 🎓 I’m seeing true entry-level positions that we haven’t really seen before, ones where experience requirements and comp are more aligned than in recent years. 🎢 There’s a lot of variability in base salary ranges, and with many of the positions open to remote, I wonder how the lower ones will compete for good talent. 🏢 Legal ops used to be the domain of tech and finance, but no more: this list includes defense, staffing, philanthropic, and media/entertainment organizations, too. Brightflag’s 2024 Corporate Legal Operations Compensation Survey launches on Tuesday in partnership with Legal Operators. Thanks in advance for your participation! #legalops #legaloperations #hiring #paytransparency
