When most people think of hiring a construction partner, they are picturing a general contractor. But actually, many of our clients aren't hiring us in that capacity. Instead, people are asking for an Owner's Representative. The OR serves as an advisor ,and advocate, and an expert extension of your team, acting in YOUR best interests during a construction project. We're probably actually a little more proactive than Superman, because we aim to swoop in and save the day before anything goes wrong. We are master detectives, looking at clues from the environment, as well as your build components to sniff out any potential fail points. Oh, and don't forget the magic "I can fix it" hammer. We don't actually have magic hammers, but we do have the right can-do attitude and we are here to help find solutions to any issues you'll encounter along the way. Want to watch a quick video on how an OR can make all the difference on your next project? Visit https://buff.ly/3Wvz5QL

I help connect contract management and legal experts with the world's leading and fastest growing construction, renewables and real estate companies, building long-term talent acquisition and retention strategies 🚀
"How can Contract Managers from Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or Legal backgrounds broaden their contract management capability whilst also embracing other disciplines?" 👨🎓 This is not to say that those with one qualification or even none would not perform as well in their role as they would without further learning and development, it certainly isn't. There are some highly skilled people out there who lead from the front without lots of letters after their name. These are simply some of the suggestions we have learned from working with our clients and the considerations they have when recruiting top contract management talent. So it's potentially a good question and one the table below hopefully starts to answer in some parts..... There is so much more that could be added to this and it would be great to hear your thoughts. A main point for me is the possibility of more centralised, structured, and accessible working groups between QSs, engineers, and lawyers. And closer collaboration between the different industries to afford each side more practical exposure to their work and therefore knowledge 💡 What else would you change or suggest? #contractmanager #contractmanagement #quantitysurveyor #engineer #lawyer #legal #constructionlaw #talent #recruitment #learninganddevelopment #construction #infrastructure

John, Once upon a time if you were a professional of any discipline, overseas hirers would demand at least 10 years experience and a Degree from a Recognised Western University. The Quantity Surveyor Role is a uniquely British profession. Unfortunately some non UK Countries still don't recognise or value what a Quantity Surveyor Is or Does. For example in the United States and France there is no such profession. Hence internationally there is some confusion when comparing with other disciplines. For me, most really good QSs are already one third engineer, one third accountant and one third Lawyer, due to the nature of the work that we do, which is frequently detail orientated (now this doesn't suit all candidates) The subjects studied on Quantity Surveying Degree /HND /HNC are most alligned with your three table analysis. (For Middle East purposes) I would replace "background" with Degree or Designation. Insert and compare all of the required subjects that a Quantity Surveyor must study and pass. This will very clearly explain what it is that we do and how we compare with other disciplines. Applicants are required to have the required degree plus experience prior to interview for most middle east locations.

Legal Advisory on Energy (Oil, Gas, Power) & Natural Resources | Projects and Infrastructure at Banwo & Ighodalo.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐰. Law constitutes the rules under which civilized individuals and communities live and maintain their relationships with one another. It includes all legislative enactments, recognized authorities and established remedies and controls for human action. Hence, for Engineers, knowing the basics of law and the regular intercourse that law would occasionally have with their practice, may be found very useful and enterprising. This is so because as an Engineer, some of your actions, or inactions, could have legal implications for your and for your business, or employer, with respect to collaborating with other industry experts, obtaining financing or undertaking client projects. You should know enough about the legal aspects of engineering practice to recognize when you need to take certain actions, when to do nothing, and when to ask for legal counsel. The following should therefore be noted: a. When you or your organization needs to have a contract with a financier, client or subcontractor, you may help with operational knowledge or guidance to help the lawyer prepare the contract. b. After a contract as been executed, your operational knowledge may be required to interpret certain terms in the contract which may relate to design, construction, manufacturing, or operations. c. Contracts contain personal and corporate liability provisions. Thus, young engineers would better off knowing how their actions or inactions may give rise to such liability and how same may be minimized. d. It is prudent for contractors to understand project-related permits, and applicable laws regarding their services and projects. These laws are always enforced, as is, by governmental authorities and ignorance of them is never an excuse. More so, although consulted lawyers would usually provide guidance with respect to rights and obligations, it is more prudent to have so basic knowledge about what is legally enforceable or otherwise. e. Lastly, certain legal terms would usually reoccur during the scope of your business, they include risk, breach, fraud, liability, dispute, reasonable and best endeavors, damages, negligence, amongst others. Having a great understanding about them may be useful for your practice. Wishing you the best in your careers. #engineers #projects #law #financing #careers

Construction Professionals: Construction cases are notoriously very document intensive. We routinely have hundreds of thousands of documents in construction matters. Start off every project with a naming convention and a plan for organizing these documents throughout the project. It will pay massive dividends in the (hopefully unlikely) event you end up in litigation. And if you're an attorney, put in the effort on the front end to make sure you are organized in the way you collect and process these documents.
