I am responsible for brand awareness and strategic storytelling, using tools such as videography, social media, blog posts, web content, press releases, newsletters and more to increase understanding of the work taking place to advance digital agriculture. ➡️ What’s your favourite part about working in digital agriculture and agri-food? Storytelling and making community connections are the best part of my job. I love being able to connect with inspiring individuals who have a vision for increasing sustainability in our environment and our economy. There are people doing really innovative things to make our food system more sustainable and it is a real privilege to share their stories. I am constantly inspired by the high caliber of work taking place in digital agriculture and agri-food right here in Manitoba. ➡️ What’s something that surprised you when you started working in digital agriculture? Before I began working for EMILI and meeting the talented individuals we collaborate with, I had no idea how diverse the backgrounds and skills of people working in digital agriculture are. The projects we are working on at Innovation Farms include collaborations with physicists, computer scientists, agronomists, mathematicians, engineers, longtime farmers, designers, videographers, and – the biggest surprise – people like me with an urban background and a degree in creative writing! Realizing that I had something important to bring to the table was a real eye opener. It fuels my excitement and curiosity to realize that I can play a small part in advancing agriculture technology and supporting projects that have a real impact on our province and our country! ➡️ What advice would you give someone considering a career in digital agriculture? Go for it! While there is definitely a need for tech savvy people to develop innovative new technologies, there is also a huge need for all skillsets, from accountants to designers, to writers and marketers. There are so many great people working in digital agriculture and everyone I meet is happy to answer questions about their experience in this sector. Don’t be shy about reaching out to ask questions and make connections.
