Soil health - Is everything for our farmers 👨🌾 👩🌾 For a better world but also to feed our world 🌎 It's been proven time and again, that farming sustainably and with nature, will often increase the health of the soil. Farms planting multiple crops, using less chemicals and allowing for wildlife across a site, increasing the nutrition of their soil many times over. Why? When a farm is diverse it allows plants to interact, to grow more quickly and to generate microbes that live and create life in our soils. Plants play an active role in seeking nutrients, defending themselves from pests and disease, responding to invasive plants, and stimulating soil microbial activity. The boreal forest as with other forests, is actually living on typically acidic and non-nutrious soils and landscapes. However, the plant matter it lives with has adapted to not only make the soil viable to host the trees, but also an entire ecosystem. Imagine if we could rethink how we use many of our farms, adapting them to host whole ecosystems, like the boreal forests already do. #soilscience #biodiversitymatters #agroecology #ecosystemrestoration
