🌱Groundswell 2024! Last week, we had the pleasure of attending #Groundswell, the premier regenerative agriculture show. 👨🌾 It’s always wonderful to experience the strong sense of community among farmers and other key players in the #regenerativeagriculture space. Here are some highlights from the two-day event: ▶️ We teamed up with our UK partners, Cefetra Ltd, and enjoyed meeting many farmers at our stand. Cefetra Ecosystem Services ▶️ Raphael Esterhazy from Deep Seed was on site to record upcoming episodes of Quick Seed, which will be live this summer! ▶️ The event was a resounding success, featuring great conversations with regenerative agriculture farmers, supply chain professionals, and scientists. Together, we cultivate a sustainable future, and see you all next year at Groundswell! #ukfarming

Last week, interns had the chance to attend the Fundamentals of Resilient Agriculture workshop at White Oak Pastures' non-profit organization, the Center for Agricultural Resilience (CFAR). We explored the core principles of regenerative agriculture and learned how White Oak Pastures is actively working to decommoditize, decentralize, and deindustrialize our food system while rebuilding community connections. White Oak Pastures emphasizes a holistic approach to nature’s cycles. Instead of focusing solely on the carbon cycle, they consider the energy, microbial, water, mineral, and grazing cycles, along with the community. This broader perspective leads to measurable outcomes that benefit people, animals, and the land. When holistic land management is done correctly, the total net emissions from animal agriculture are significantly lower than those from conventionally raised beef and even plant-based options, making regenerative agriculture a far superior choice for all without sacrificing our health in the process. We toured the farm, compost areas, and processing facility, including the kill floor, which is a vital step in reconnecting us with our food and honoring the animals that sustain our health. While I could talk about regenerative agriculture endlessly, my favorite aspect of the event was the sense of community. We frequently gather around a large table for meals, not just at CFAR but as part of the everyday experience, engaging with one another—including Will Harris, who was always available and happy to answer any questions. Everyone at CFAR is enthusiastic, passionate and excited about regenerative agriculture and White Oak Pastures is truly leading the way. #Holisticlandmanagement #regenerativeagriculture #thefutureisregenerative #centerforagriculturalresilience #cfar #whiteoakpastures

Great to have attended the 2024 #CattleCon in Orlando, Florida where 8,000 cattle folk descended into town to discuss all things ranching. This included a growing focus on regenerative ranching, with a fantastic presentation from Dr Jeff Goodwin from Texas A&M University. Jeff presented on the ‘Real-World Benefits ($$) of Managing for Improved Soil Health’ in a session sponsored by National Grazing Lands Coalition. In his presentation, he explained that regenerative principles align with the profitability of a grazing enterprise. The art in all of this is to focus on the principles that can be applied to different producer contexts, as opposed to prescribing practices. The upside beyond soil health and profitability is that this approach is ‘making ranching fun’. With nearly 50 measured soil carbon increases from producers in Australia, AgriProve is scouting regenerative networks in the US where our insights from measuring and monetising improved soil health in the form of carbon credits, can be applied to ranching operations. #RegenerativeAgriculture #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateInnovation

Founder at &collab: I coach entrepreneurs, helping them scale their businesses while also achieving personal growth
Two Regen Agri legends, Andrew Ardington and Peter Byck on the stage in Cape Town. Just before watching the first episode of a 4-part docuseries - Roots So Deep (you can see the devil down there). The documentary series explores the world of adaptive cattle farmers and their conventional farming neighbours. Alongside this journey, a team of pioneering scientists conduct groundbreaking research, investigating the costs and benefits of grazing practices in harmony with nature versus those in conflict with it. The Q&A session was particularly interesting and especially when it came to conventional farmers being super curious about what their neighbour regen farmers were doing - seeing the positive impact and results from these practices, but still not feeling free to walk over to them, to ask the questions on their mind. But isn't it so for most businesses. What is holding us back from engaging with others in our network and industry. We can all learn from each other - on both sides of the fence. Collaboration is key in changing the way we have always been doing things. #regenagri #collaboration #courageousleadership

For 40 years, The Nature Conservancy has championed conservation across Latin America, working closely with communities to merge scientific and traditional knowledge for sustainable solutions. Our mission—protecting the lands and waters on which all life depends—is at the core of everything we do. Today, we’re evolving beyond traditional conservation methods. We understand that nature is intertwined with our lives and cannot simply be fenced off. By addressing human pressures and fostering sustainable development, we're finding innovative ways to protect our natural capital. A key part of this effort TNC's work in the Gran Chaco where, in a truly collective efforts involving all stakeholders, we are helping build a food system rooted in regenerative agriculture that benefits communities, economies, and the planet by collaborating with local farmers and ranchers, creating platforms for collective action, generating influence to minimize land use change and expanding land and water areas under protection. Tune in to hear Mauricio Nuñez Regueiro discuss how the Gran Chaco serves as an example of how large-scale food production can thrive alongside small farms while preserving biodiversity and supporting a local food economy that invests in nature-based solutions #Conservation #Sustainability #RegenerativeAgriculture #NatureBasedSolutions

This week's sessions on Food and Agriculture during the Climatebase Fellowship have been an absolute highlight for me! The insights shared were truly eye-opening, especially the staggering potential of regenerative agriculture in reducing emissions. Did you know that practices like agroforestry alone could sequester up to 9.28 gigatons of CO2-equivalent by 2050? That's massive! Through deep dives and industry panels, we explored transformative practices fto build resilience. From discussions on world hunger and sustainability led by Alexa White, Ph.D. (c) to innovative approaches in insect farming with Maria Alexandrova of Nasekomo, every session emphasised the urgency of building healthier and more sustainable food systems. A special shout out to Julia Akker who led the curriculum sessions, for providing invaluable knowledge and inspiring so many questions. It's clear that with agriculture responsible for approximately 26% of GHG emissions, there's no time to waste. Continue discussing and exploring alternative solutions to tackle this challenge head-on is a must. It’s so inspiring to be part of the Fellowship community and I can’t wait for next week’s sessions on Nature-based solutions.
