[Monday #Agronomic #News 🌱] Harvest season has kicked off in the south with the first combined harvesters in the fields (check out that winter barley!). Meanwhile, in the north, high humidity, mild temperatures, and frequent showers are causing concern for #farmers. Amidst all this, many farmers ask: "𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 #𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒔𝒐𝒊𝒍?" 🪜 Picture a ladder: ▶ Red Zone: Critical low OM (organic matter) – your soil's in trouble. ▶ Orange/Light Green Zone: Under potential – room to grow. ▶ Green Zone: Ideal – better #soil, quick recovery. ▶ Optimum: Top-notch – rare but awesome! Thresholds are linked to #clay content, with a strong correlation: more clay means higher potential OM. Research from Switzerland and England suggests the following OM/clay ratios: 12%: Minimum to avoid issues. 17%: Good soil quality. 24%: Super resilient. 🌱 [Monday #Agronomic #News] As we navigate through frequent #rainfalls in France, UK, and Belgium, our focus remains on #spring operations amidst the challenges. In the north, farmers are diligently sowing root #crops like beetroot and potatoes, along with flax and peas. Meanwhile, southern regions in France are busy with the sowing of sunflower and grain corn. 🌾The Challenges ▶️ Delayed sowings of #springbarley and #legumes due to inaccessible plots and unsuitable conditions persist in some areas. ▶️ The wet and hot conditions have heightened concerns about #fungal crop diseases, necessitating extra caution from farmers. ▶️ The timing of crucial operations such as manure spraying and cover crop destruction is paramount. Late operations could lead to #soilcompaction and subsequent #yield decrease, as well as #nitrogen starvation in the following crop due to #microorganism activity. 🚜 Despite these everyday challenges, recent field tours have showcased promising progress. A #farmer in central France, since joining our program in 2021, has significantly increased his net carbon balance by more than 400 tons and achieved 100% plant coverage both temporally and spatially. He is now reinvesting their earnings to diversify organic inputs, demonstrating the tangible #impact of our program on #sustainable #farmingpractices. Stay tuned for our agronomic news every Monday !
