Working with innovative companies to connect them with world class People & Talent profiles 🚀 Talent Acquisition Specialist | In-house recruiter | HR | People | Talent Attraction | Blogger | Talent Researcher
POV: You just experienced a stellar hiring process. I recently placed an Early Careers Development Manager for my client, a leading contributor within the sports industry. And they did not disappoint. Here's what made their hiring process so seamless for both myself and, most importantly, the candidates: ✅ Efficient interview stages - the four-stage interview process was streamlined, with the first two stages impressively covered in just one week. ✅ Outstanding comms - the talent team provided timely feedback and was always available to answer candidate queries, with responses typically within 24 hours. ✅ Inviting and professional - interview invites were concise, friendly, and approachable. ✅ Conversational approach - interviews were conversational yet efficiently challenged candidates' thought processes. ✅ Personal touch - after offering my candidate, our client called the successful candidate to address any concerns and further express their interest in her joining the company. 😍 My candidate literally said, and I quote, "I left the interview and just thought, I really, really want to work with these people." And that's what you call a stellar candidate experience. It was an absolute PLEASURE working this role and partnering with a client who puts candidate experience at the forefront of their hiring process 👏🏼

There’s 0 point in reposting job opportunities that have disparaging hiring processes. It’s the equivalent of me recommending a great restaurant in a shitty neighborhood. (And one could argue the neighborhood makes the restaurant not-so-great) Everyone has the “opportunity” to go sky diving over a beautiful landscape but if the parachute provided to you malfunctions then the “beautiful view” won’t matter. What is functional are respectable (not perfect) hiring experiences paired with aligned opportunities. The owness is typically on the applicant to “stand out” but standing out in dysfunction somehow adds to the dysfunction more than it corrects it. The dysfunction will then demand more from the people without ever demanding more from itself. It attempts to qualify people who are already qualified by getting them to create a spectacle (in shit)…which only proves they are overqualified. (p.s. Not to mention the person who “stands out” in the company is usually the one made redundant. So lets not promote a habit that gets punished later.) (p.p.s Don’t you just love my analogies)

Hiring for the present is easy. Hiring for the future is tough. Successful companies hire people who are good today AND can also be good tomorrow. It's called Future-Proof Hiring. Skillset is one thing, but how about: 1. Adaptability 2. Cultural fit 3. Potential for growth 4. Ability to learn fast Investing in your team's future pays off - higher morale, less turnover, and increased loyalty. It's a win-win-win. So, when you hire, think long-term. You're not just hiring for today, you're also hiring for tomorrow.

It’s funny because it’s true and then it becomes sad. Here’s my 2 cents: Yes, the market is rough right now. What is making it rougher, however, is the collision of two opposing beliefs - the first is from young adults graduating from college and thinking they deserve to start at an above-entry postion for the same pay as tenured employees. This is not the market we are in right now, nor is this reasonable. Believe me, I have been there; I graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration and was shocked when 2 months went by and I still had not been hired. I ended up taking a part-time position for a family-owned contruction company and moving my way into a full-time. It took a few months. I optained a Masters degree in Organizational Leadership, and it took a year after this to move up. This is what normal looks like. The second belief, which is the larger of the two, is that managers and leaders should hired people who already know what they are doing and should not have to train and guide. This is absolutely ridiculous. Hire for attitude, be eager to train. If you are blessed enough the be in a position where you get to guide and support followers, stop looking for unreasonable expectations to make your job easier. You have been given a wonderful opportunity to help build next generation’s business opportunities and leaders. Trust in your own abilities and take a chance on people. Your grandchildren will thank you.

Here are the 5 dumbest reasons not to hire someone. 1. They don't have a degree. Let's face it, many jobs do not truly require a degree to be successful, nor does the degree actually prepare them for the work. Besides, a degree isn't a good indicator of your contribution to an employer. 2. They were laid off I've heard multiple senior "leaders" suggest that laid-off people are damaged goods. Rolling my eyes. 3. They had a job gap IDK, maybe it's none of your business that they had a sick parent or decided to start a family? 4. They lack direct industry experience. Yeah, and give them the job, and now they will have now worked in that industry. This is the most overrated "criteria" I've encountered. 5. They don't have the exact background we're looking for.
