This year, as we gather with loved ones and celebrate the season's blessings, let's also open our hearts and extend a helping hand to those less fortunate. Remember the families facing food insecurity, the children without presents under the tree, and the individuals struggling with homelessness and loneliness. In a nation as rich as ours, no one should have to face the holidays without basic necessities and a touch of Christmas magic. Here are some ways we can all make a difference: * Donate to local food banks and shelters: Every can of food, warm blanket, or toy donated can bring immense relief and joy to someone in need. * Volunteer your time: Soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and senior centers often rely on volunteers to provide meals, companionship, and holiday cheer. * Organize a toy drive: Spread the word in your community and gather new or gently used toys to brighten the holidays for underprivileged children. * Support local businesses: Many smaller businesses struggle during the holidays. Choose to shop local and support those who contribute to the vibrant tapestry of our communities. * Reach out to a lonely neighbor: A simple phone call, a plate of homemade cookies, or even just a friendly conversation can make a world of difference for someone who might be isolated during the holidays. Food insecurity is a worldwide problem that manifests itself locally in all our communities. Over the past few years, Curcio Webb, LLC’s holiday donation has been made to Chef José Andrés World Central Kitchen program. The World Central Kitchen teams are first on the spot wherever hot meals and human kindness are needed. Karen McKeon volunteered for a ½ day volunteer shift Thursday, June 27th at Mercer Street Friends Food Bank. In 2021, Karen directed her Curcio Webb charitable donation to Mercer Street Friends. At the time she shared that “the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank channels 5.5 million pounds of food and groceries annually to a network of over 100 local food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, meal sites, schools, senior and disabled programs, and low-income housing sites. Our food distribution and hunger prevention programs reach over 60,000 people who face the pain and indignity of hunger.” Five point five MILLION pounds annually—how impressive is that? The day Karen volunteered at the Food Bank they needed help labeling bags for “SHUP” (their Send HUnger Packing program). SHUP is a "meal bag program that helps feed food insecure students over the weekend when they lack access to school meals." It distributes 10,000 bags a month to students in need throughout Mercer County, New Jersey. Karen, your in-the-trenches work at the Food Bank is so important. Thank you! It’s not just students in Mercer County, New Jersey who run the risk of going hungry on the weekends. Curcio Webb is going to address local food insecurity for children at our upcoming annual company meeting. Brian Pieper and his wife Katie are spearheading an opportunity for us to pack bags of food for children to eat during the weekend. They’re tapping into a local program that helps kids get meals on weekends i.e., where they are already participating in a meals-at-school program. City Union Mission, for instance, is running low on Thanksgiving food boxes and urgently needs food donations to serve more hungry households in Kansas City. Feeding America reports that approximately 1 in 10 Kansans and 1 in 9 Missourians are hungry. 😳 This is what keeps me going. How do we unify all the efforts to overcome the fragmentation and make getting food where it is needed super efficient? 1. Collective advocacy. 2. Education and business acumen. 3. Shared systems.

Costs are rising rising. Mobile Meals of Toledo has experienced a 25% increase in food costs,transportation, and, labor. Even with that we haven’t passed cost on. What does that mean? Do the math we are eating into our reserves. Also government, contract funding, and insurers increases support has only gone up from 0% to 6% in 3 years. Help us find a sustainable path forward

According to research by Foodbank Australia, 1 in 5 children in Australia experience food insecurity. This means many kids are starting their school day on an empty stomach. "It's not good enough that any child goes without food, let alone many children. When I joined the Living Hope Missions team on a school food delivery run, I saw first-hand the number of children going to school every day, hungry. The reality is that they can't change their circumstances alone and schools don't have enough resources to meet demand. By providing residents with access to nutritious foods, this incredible nonprofit aims to eliminate food scarcity and insecurity one household at a time. How? Working on their 'Adopt a Family' fundraiser was a truly rewarding experience. It was inspiring to connect with Natia Bueno, their wonderful Development and Communications Manager. Her dedication to the cause and passion for the mission brightened up the whole room!🌟 Here are some solutions we discussed to amplify their campaign's reach: 1. Due to the model minority myth, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are often overlooked for food insecurity. Based on the research Feeding America has conducted here in some quick stats on the gap ASPIRE is committed to helping close: - An estimated 6% of Asian Americans are food insecure. That's 1 in 17 people who identify as Asian American. - An estimated 17% of Pacific Islanders are food insecure. That's 1 in 6 people who identify as Pacific Islanders.
