We are pleased to announce the publication of our latest research in the CIRP Annals (Elsevier). Our study addresses significant challenges in the aerospace industry concerning additively manufactured conduits. These challenges include the lack of standardized procedures for characterizing these components under actual operating conditions and the high process-related roughness impacting fluid dynamics. In our research, we explored the effects of three scanning strategies on the mechanical performance and surface integrity of Inconel 718 thin-walled nozzles. Our findings reveal a remarkable reduction in surface roughness by up to 50%, while maintaining variations in static strength below 1%. These results highlight the necessity of application-specific characterization and demonstrate the potential for additively manufactured nozzles to surpass traditional manufacturing methods in practical scenarios.
