"I've gone fishin"... My wife and I were once kidnapped in Connecticut. I know it sounds wild but it's true. Our car broke down on the highway one snowy day on the way back from Boston to our place in NYC at the time. When the tow company finally arrived, instead of taking us to the garage provided by the insurance company, the driver took us back to his office where his boss made it clear that we were not leaving unless we gave him the car and directed the insurance check to him a.k.a. insurance fraud. With my wife and baby (Rebecca) still in the truck I was left with little choice. Of course I protested and fought back but I had little advantage vis a vis my family, the cold weather and the fact that I was surrounded by the driver, his boss and another employee. Over a number of hours I tried everything I could think of to secure our release. But every time I tried to move the situation to resolution, he would just have an outburst, screaming about this or that nonsense. After I think 3 or 4 hours, I finally got the boss to agree to take us to the garage. I had to pay him $500 out of pocket but at least we got to our destination safe and sound. Once I paid the jerk boss he said something curious that stuck... he pointed to a sign that announced his retirement. He said "I've been doing this (repairing cars) for years and now I've gone fishin". This of course is slang for retired but also can be taken literally as fishing for desperate folks and extorting them. I love business. Not just as a profession but also because of what it teaches us philosophically about life. I love the study of business because it truly represents a study of relationships e.g. the relationship surrounding an exchange between parties and the value it creates. Business relationships are sacred. And whether that means towing someone to the proper destination or paying bills on time for service, the agreements made between provider and consumer are sacrosanct and should only be disturbed with the greatest of care. I feel personally passionate about the FTC's recent decision around non-competes. And while I do not have all the answers, no one does, as a consultant and CEO of a technology designed to foster interactions between man and machine, I guess you can say I at least have the start of an opinion. When I learned about wormholes, I understood that one can travel in space-time infinitely faster. Later, I came across the closed timeline curve, a wormhole that sends you back to the initial stage.
