Why do so few males attend Women in Tech events? Not the main theme of the event, but an important one, and one I've thought about in the past. Are these events for me? Really thought provoking fireside conversation led by Beckie Taylor with John Bamber and Alastair McGeoch. Challenging misconceptions, courage, allyship, breaking-down bias. People take courage taking risks in engineering, so lean-in and push yourself outside the norm in hiring diverse teams. And take courage and attend a #WIT event. #reframewitmcr24 #reframewit #bias #diversity

🌍 Yesterday we celebrated International Women in Engineering Day! 🚀 #INWED24 👩🔧 I know we our missed our post yesterday, but we wanted to take this time to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of women engineers around the world who have driven and continue to drive positive change in their fields and beyond. We also recognise the important contribution and effort of our student engineers – not only at Western but across all institutions. 🌟 International Women in Engineering Day is not just about celebrating and showcasing achievements but also about inspiring the next generation of women to pursue careers in engineering. By showcasing the diversity of impactful work coupled with the power of positive role-modelling, we can empower and inspire the next generation of women to see themselves as future engineers and future leaders. 🤝 For this #INWED24, let's come together to celebrate, inspire, and advocate for a more equitable and diverse engineering community. Together, we can build a future where all talents thrive and contribute to creating innovative solutions for our world. #INWED2024 #WomenInEngineering #DiversityInTech

Following #INWED24 I can honestly say that I would run out of characters in the LinkedIn limit long before I ran out of amazing women in engineering to @ in a post. I'm surrounded by inspirational women who are building the future of the world with technology and processes, and focusing on people. We can't expect to deliver effective engineering solutions if we ignore 50% of the people who live in our world. It's important to celebrate progress but to continue challenging issues that arise: > Are you on an all-male panel? Give up your spot to one of your amazing women colleagues. > Looking at a shortlist of candidates for a role and see (what appear to be) all male names? Challenge the recruitment team or yourself with whether that's appropriate. > Notice a micro-aggression in the workplace? Challenge it openly if it's safe for you to do so. It's sad to say but I still have incredible privilege as a man in engineering in comparison to the women I work with. If I don't use that privilege positively then I have failed.

Engineering has always been a male dominated space. As recruiters, we understand the importance of removing the bias of the past and showcasing the incredible women in the industry. What are you doing to cancel out the bias and recruit more with a more ED&I focus? #womeninengineering #EDI
