Hi peers, There have been more and more cameo appearances of SORA AI-produced commercial work on our feeds lately. Most recently, the music video "The Hardest Part" by Washed Out, directed by Paul Trillo, made the rounds. I'm leaning towards being impressed. The execution of some of the long shots is something, featuring a multitude of "near impossible" angles that the camera seamlessly navigates through. Those who understand cinematography know that most of them are "money shots". On the other hand, the challenges of consistency still persist, I guess, since the two characters change faces, haircuts, and clothing considerably from shot to shot. When creating a "music video", this is often the desired outcome. Next, it would be interesting to see what SORA can do with commercial formats that require steadier frames and character consistency. i think we should all just revel in the ability to create impossible scenes, to conjure up the fantastic. I suspect that all the mundane continuity demands will be addressed in time, but when that is achieved people won't care because they have moved on. they will have new expectations. with every advancement, the people who maintain the status quo (lets think of digital audio recording or digital photography or digital editing, animation) are fixated on very incremental improvements in their highly evolved process and tools. When the disruptive tech shows up, it is always glitchy and can't reproduce what the prevailing approaches yield. yet the inherent fundamental shifts that are at the core of the emerging approaches open up unimaginable possibilities that are simply impossible with the traditional tools and techniques. in time, the traditional approaches make a comeback because they have a certain quality that the innovators never quite capture. but as they get close, yet another massive innovation/invention starts the cycle all over again.. anyone mixed their own paints from pigments and painted by candlelight lately?

This is everything... Coming up as a DOP, I learned that (more often than not) colourists won't tell you that you've done a bad job. They'll 💯 think it 👀, but what good does giving you that brutal, honest feedback do? ⚠ In an industry of fragile egos, offending a DOP means no more work for the colourist. ⚠ It's far too easy to go on for too long thinking you're making great images when really, the colourist is saving your ass and you're taking the credit. This is why I learnt to colour grade. I needed to know how my on-set decisions affected the final image.
