The Small UAV Coalition applauds the signing into law of the bipartisan #FAA Reauthorization Bill. The bill includes several priorities of the Coalition, such as shaping and accelerating the BVLOS rulemaking, extending Section 44807 exemption authority, and requiring the FAA to establish an acceptable level of risk. Specific problems require specific solutions. One of the tasks of the UAV DACH Application Groups is to identify and clearly specify these solutions. Regarding #UAS supported #inspection of power lines and gas pipelines, for example, many interested companies are faced with the problem that this cannot be realized for regulatory reasons – despite already functional technology.   In order to prevent a useful application for #drones from remaining blocked, the new Application Group "Line Inspection", with the participation of member companies such as Siemens Energy, Thyssengas and GASCADE Gastransport GmbH, will develop proposals on what needs to be done at European and national level to enable inspections of power lines and gas pipelines with UAS.   UAV DACH - Association for Unmanned Aviation is committed to shaping the regulatory framework for the European #drone economy in the interests of its members. Its aim is to support the safe, commercial and sustainable operation of #unmanned #aerial systems. As a strong community, the European association based in Germany organizes networking and information for all relevant stakeholders from business, politics and society.

New ASME Standard Published: Use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for Inspections MUS-1 – 2024 https://lnkd.in/eMWAJdzs I would like to thank the numerous dedicated technical experts who served as volunteers on ASME’s Mobile Unmanned Systems (MUS) standards committee and its subcommittees who developed this standard to benefit the industry and increase safety. This Standard provides the requirements for the use of UAS to safely and reliably perform inspections to obtain quality data and repeatable results. It is the responsibility of the user of this Standard to determine whether using UAS to perform the inspection is the proper method for the desired outcome. The vehicles used for the inspection of assets may involve rotary, vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), fixed winged, or hybrid platforms. In some conditions, the use of a tethered system is recommended. This Standard was written to be used by many industries and not only comply with ASME code-related inspections. The use of this Standard provides the basis of using UAS safely and reliably when carrying out inspections and can be applied to the inspection.
