Host of Scrolling 2 Death Podcast | Passionate about social media reform & creating safer spaces to connect.
23 children die each week from drug overdoses and poisonings. Most of these deaths are due to fentanyl, which is being found in fake pills that are sold on social media. The time for change is now. Today is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day. It's your opportunity to get educated and spread awareness on this epidemic. In order to fully understand what is happening, I believe we need to know the stories. We need to say the names of those we have lost. The following are my conversations with just a few of the parents who have lost children to fake pills made with #fentanyl (all obtained through Snapchat): Alexander Neville (Amy Neville, mom): https://lnkd.in/gknMHSjX Sammy Chapman (Sam Chapman, dad): https://lnkd.in/gWS7MQ3T Daniel Joseph Puerta Johnson (Jaime Ignacio Puerta Gonzalez, dad): https://lnkd.in/dW7ty54E Alexandra Capelouto (Matt Capelouto, dad): https://lnkd.in/gzhwux-u Zach Didier (Chris Didier, dad): https://lnkd.in/gVxXGyr2 Becca Schmill (Deb Schmill): https://lnkd.in/gsKgZWbP [SNAPCHAT FUELS TEEN OPIOID EPIDEMIC] More here in my interview with Rolling Stone investigator Paul Solotaroff: https://lnkd.in/geV9E39M

🛑 September 21st is Opioid Awareness Day In 2000 there were 8,000 Opioid deaths in the U.S., in 2010 it more than doubled to 21,089. By 2020 Opioid deaths surpassed 69,000, and in 2023 deaths increased to over 83,000. 2024 is projected to be the same if not increase over 2023. That is over a half a million lives lost to overdose deaths❗ Overdose deaths fueled by synthetic opioids like fentanyl, continue to devastate families and communities across the U.S. 🙏 Today, we stand together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and advocate for solutions that save lives: Educate yourself and others on the dangers of prescription opioids. 🤝 Support harm reduction strategies, such as access to naloxone and fentanyl test strips. 📢 Advocate for comprehensive treatment options and mental health support. If you or someone you know is struggling with opioid use, remember: help is available. Let’s continue the fight to prevent overdose deaths and create a path to recovery. #OpioidAwareness #EndTheStigma #HarmReduction #FentanylCrisis #OpioidCrisis #RecoveryIsPossible (source: USAFacts National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM)
Opioids have serious risks of misuse and overdose so it's important for all of us to be aware of the signs of an overdose & how to respond to one. This #OpioidAwarenessDay find information from SAMHSA's Overdose Prevention and Response Toolkit https://lnkd.in/erPeSpZ8

As we reflect on #OverdoseAwarenessDay, it's essential to consider not only the immediate crises but also the long-term, systemic issues that have contributed to the ongoing opioid epidemic. A recent commentary by Campbell Nancy at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute challenges the rapid-response mentality that often dominates our approach to drug epidemics. It suggests a more thoughtful and reflective strategy that addresses the root causes of this crisis, rather than merely reacting to its symptoms. In memory of those we've lost, let's work towards more holistic and humane approaches to overdose prevention! #drugpolicy #HarmReduction #PublicHealth
