Language barriers and confusing healthcare terms shouldn’t get in the way of communities around the world understanding their HIV diagnoses and treatment plans. We’re here to help break down these barriers, and today, we’re talking about PEP. 👉 PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis), is a short course of HIV medicines that you can take if you think you have been exposed to HIV to prevent the virus from taking hold in your body. The sooner you start PEP, the better. PEP must be started within 72 hours of possible exposure to HIV to reduce the risk of infection. If you’re prescribed PEP, you’ll need to take it every day for 28 days.

HIV is still a global epidemic. It’s a virus that in its late stage of infection causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Though treatment will result in a near-normal life expectancy, there is no cure.* Today, on #WorldAIDSDay, we can show support for those living with HIV by eliminating stigma and raising awareness about what causes it and how to prevent it. Nelson Vergel, an HIV long-term survivor and friend of RORA Bio recently chronicled his journey as person living as an HIV-immune non-responder (“HIV-INR”). See the link below. People living as HIV-INRs face persistent immunological challenges in which their CD4 T-cell levels remain below 300 cells/mL (a better range is 500-1500). The low T-cell level makes them more susceptible to infection and certain cancers for life. RORA Bio is developing a first-in-class T-cell platform that may help support T-cell levels in HIV-INR patients should future clinical trials be successful. The 2023 #worldaidsday theme "Let Communities Lead" emphasizes the power of communities to drive positive change in the response to HIV/AIDS. It recognizes the diverse strengths they bring to the table and highlights the importance of fostering partnerships that empower and amplify the voices of those most affected by the epidemic. This theme directly aligns with our community led efforts and approach towards prevention and response of HIV/AIDs under the West Nile HIV project that we have been jointly implementing with Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) with the financial support of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since 2021

Did you know that Hepatitis is a silent killer, claiming more lives annually than HIV and Malaria combined? Yet, it receives a fraction of the attention and funding. The World Hepatitis Alliance has shared key insights from the Global Hepatitis Report 2024 by the World Health Organization, emphasizing the urgent need for action: In Asia and India, the situation is particularly dire: In the SEARO region, which includes India, diagnosis coverage is only 2.8% for #HepatitisB, with treatment coverage less than 0.1%. In India alone, Hepatitis poses a significant public health challenge, with millions affected but few receiving adequate treatment. Despite the magnitude of Hepatitis infections, the response remains vastly underfunded compared to other global health issues. This alarming data underscores the need for increased awareness, better access to treatment, and increased funding to combat the disease. As a healthcare professional deeply committed to #liverhealth, I urge everyone to join this vital cause.
