It’s only good news when bigger brands take a step towards sustainable production. This video ad by Shiseido announces their win at the World Packaging Awards for two of their packaging designs - both built with focus on environmental footprint. While the purpose of this video is to announce the award win, this could be a good opportunity to remind Shiseido’s audience of their impact to encourage them to opt for refill containers when purchasing. Therefore, I decided to rewrite the copy for this video, and here’s how I did it: Frame #1: 1 Refill = 92% Less Plastic Waste* (bold) *compared to the regular packaging Frame #2: Shiseido (bold) Minimising plastic waste one refill at a time! — It may look like this is more or less the same as the original copy, but it isn’t. What I have done here is that I have packaged my words differently and let me tell know how that makes a difference: • It clearly communicates the impact an individual can can create with just one refill container — something like this encourages the reader to be mindful with their purchase choices because they know the result / outcome of it. • To create eco-friendly packaging is one thing, but to present it as the brand’s value is another — doing the latter creates a lasting brand image in people’s mind and that’s what the tagline in the second frame, under brand name, is doing. It is there to tell that Shiseido is a brand that believers in reducing plastic waste. With a video like this, even if there isn’t an active CTA for the user to instantly go make a purchase, it will leave a mark in their minds for their future purchases.
