I don’t update my resume for each job I apply to. I can’t do it. I never did. I know I’m an outlier here, and not saying it’s the right or wrong way to do it… But I created 3-4 resumes that were specific for targeted types of jobs. I used cover letters, when required, to show my skills and personality and what set me apart. A bit of creativity And I did my best to network, get referrals, find hiring managers or make myself known to people in the org. But to throw some keyword salad on a resume for every job? No thanks. We only have so much time in a day and we need to be strategic when jobseeking about how much time you spend searching, scrolling LinkedIn, having coffee chats and applying. Highest value comes first and for me it’s building relationships, becoming a thought leader and having some well thought out resumes that work for the job And if you get knocked out from qualifying questions or ranked differently in an ATS (however that works) You need to decide if that’s a better way to focus your time. You’re the CEO of your own career journey, no matter what someone like me posts on LinkedIn. Be a good human #jobsearch #resume #careerseekers
3-4 resumes is also too much. A single resume is enough if one knows himself and is honest with himself.
“You’re the CEO of your own career journey” Powerful reminder Sherri
Totally agree about set of role based resumes. I use that approach rather than editing resume for each job post.
have it your way! you rule!
Depends on the job doesn't it.... If a sales person couldn't be bothered to tailor their own proposal to show best fit then what does that say.....
Love this Sherri Carpineto ❤️🩹🌟🪷
Sherri Carpineto If only more people saw things this way. Unfortunately many don't have a choice.
After 200+ applications... I feel this. Between that, updating my cover letters, and even getting filtered by AI due to missing skills even when you fit the role and 90% of the requirements. I have even made another email, just to submit an edited resume just get passed the filters lol. It's crazy how many extremely skilled/smart people there are and they just dont get the attention they deserve. I feel like networking and referrals are the bread and butter on here, I hope I can gain enough meaningful connections to one day find an opportunity to show off my developed skills.

3moInstead of hiring the best person, it's now about hiring the best person who can game the system. Removing as much of the human element as possible is a huge problem with today's hiring practices. Networking and relationships matter way more now than ever.
