The first report was adopted on 24 June 2020. The report outlines potential steps to improve enforcement, data protection authority support, and consistent interpretation and application. 📱 ⚡ On 24 July, EU Member States, with the support of the European Commission and ENISA, the EU Agency for Cybersecurity, published the first report on the cybersecurity and resilience of Europe’s telecommunications and electricity sectors. The report points to concerns about a number of risks, including risks to supply chain security, the lack of cyber professionals and the risks posed by malicious activities from cyber criminals and state-sponsored threat actors. The report puts forward a number of recommendations to mitigate these risks. 🤖 On 22 July, the European Commission unveiled a proposed AI Pact for high-risk artificial intelligence developers and is seeking voluntary commitment from the industry to start implementing AI Act requirements early. Artificial Intelligence in Financial Advice 2024 conference, 10th July 2024, hosted a panel discussion on ‘How AI can help adviser compliance’. The panel discussion was chaired by FTRC director Ian McKenna and also featured Joanne Smith, founder of the TCC Group and Recordsure, and the Rt Hon Stephen McPartland, Conservative MP and founder of Green Cyber Research. The discussion highlighted AI's role in improving adviser compliance, the necessity of cybersecurity alongside AI strategies, and the challenges of AI bias. The panellists agreed on the importance of human oversight in AI applications and anticipated the arrival of a dedicated AI regulator. Joanne Smith noted that AI can play a big role in monitoring and analysing what advisers record on behalf of clients. Threats from malicious cyberactivity are likely to increase as nation-states, financially motivated criminals, and novices increasingly incorporate artificial intelligence into their routines, the UK’s top intelligence agency said. The assessment, from the UK’s Government Communications Headquarters, predicted ransomware will be the biggest threat to get a boost from AI over the next two years. AI will lower barriers to entry, a change that will bring a surge of new entrants into the criminal enterprise.
