Corporate College recently had the incredible opportunity to host executive leaders from 100 Black Men of America, Inc. for their executive leadership retreat. I had the privilege of leading a session titled "Education's Post-Pandemic Evolution: What We Provide Matters," and later joined Herman Bulls, vice chairman and international director at JLL, to discuss "Organizational Leadership, Governance, and Impact." Educational leaders, how do you see the role of education evolving in the post-pandemic world?

“Despite only representing 3% of all four-year institutions, [HBCUs] graduate 17% of all bachelor’s degrees and 24% of all STEM-related bachelor’s degrees for Black students, enrolling ‘more than twice as many Pell Grant-eligible students as non-HBCUs.’ Charging tuition rates that are on average nearly 30% less than at comparable non-HBCUs, these schools are among the best return on our nation’s post-secondary education investments. Super fun time speaking with current marketing students at University of Portland - including a few students I’ve previously had in class! Hopefully my hot takes weren’t too hot 😄 Some highlights: - Don’t blanket add people on LinkedIn; invest in relationships with contacts you make like you would anyone else! - Your grades don’t matter as much as your ability to demonstrate responsibility and follow through (which more often than not ends up being reflected in your grades anyways). - Leverage college as an opportunity to learn how to think critically and connect with folks who hold different perspectives and experiences than you. Empathy and wisdom will take your career higher and farther than solely focusing on being a high performer by yourself. We need to be able to serve alongside others!

We were thrilled to take part in the Strategic School Staffing Summit hosted by Arizona State University’s Next Education Workforce initiative earlier this month. The summit brought together over 600 education leaders from school districts, higher ed, nonprofits, philanthropy, and government to celebrate innovative and practical approaches to team-based education. We learned how new approaches to teacher preparation and staffing can: + improve working conditions for teachers + reduce their isolation and overload + accelerate their growth What had us excited? Emerging research on the differentiated roles and distributed expertise of team-based teaching.
