This is Advocacy Awareness week. Advocacy is vital to a fair and just society because it provides a mechanism to ensure that people have their voice heard in a variety of situations. Many people are unaware that they may be entitled to statutory advocacy. There are different types of advocacy for different situations; here is a brief overview of one type of advocacy that SWAN provides: Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) IMHA exists to allow for people who are detained under the Mental Health Act or on a community treatment order (CTO) to be supported and informed of their rights and how to use them. An IMHA advocate provides help independently from the NHS and private healthcare teams and our specially trained advocates help people to understand their rights and participate in decisions about their care and treatment, for example: – Understanding and exercising your rights – Requesting a review of your section - Preparation and support during meetings with medical/care staff You can contact us using the details below if you have any questions or if you require alternative formats: Email: [email protected] Telephone: 03333 447928. #advocacyawarenessweek #advocacyawarenessweek2024 #advocacy #advocate #SouthWestAdvocacyNetwork #careact #careactadvocacy

Founder and Executive Director at Courage to Caregivers, Inc. We're in the caregiver burnout prevention business. I have a heart for unpaid family caregivers. 💙
Courage to Caregivers, Inc. August newsletter is focused on ADVOCACY. "All advocacy is, at its core, an exercise in empathy.” ~ Samantha Power There are so many ways we can show up as advocates. ADVOCACY is defined by the Missouri Foundation for Health as “any action that speaks in favor of, recommends, argues for a cause, supports or defends, or pleads on behalf of others.” As caregivers, we balance many of these roles as we stand up for ourselves, our loved ones, and fellow caregivers. The West Virginia University Health Science Center denotes three types of advocacy: self-advocacy, individual advocacy, and systems advocacy. There are numerous ways we can be advocates, but, as Erin Galyean emphasizes in her book "Badass Advocate," we can't do them alone. That's why this month we have stressed the importance of CREATING our support networks, MANAGING our stress, and COMMUNICATING effectively. By finding hope and support in one another, we can heal and recover together. "A Badass Advocate doesn't try to do it all by herself, rather she leads to a strong team who works to fight for the patient." - Erin Galyean, author of "Badass Advocate" Check out Courage to Caregivers, Inc. entire August newsletter focused on Advocacy here: https://lnkd.in/eNqe_vQe #caregiver hashtag #caregiversupport hashtag #mentalwellbeing hashtag #mentalwellness #courage #hope #support #empowerment #selfcare #breathe #breathingmeditation #stressrelief #stressmanagement #burnoutprevention #personalgrowth #personalgrowthjourney #advocacy #effectivecommunication #supportnetwork
