Canada is also taking a closer look at TikTok's plans to expand its business within the country, citing potential national security concerns as well. While the outcome of the review still remains quite uncertain for now, it could range from requiring TikTok to make adjustments to blocking its expansion altogether. This move comes at a time where global scrutiny of TikTok's operations, with the U.S is still at hand. House passing a bill targeting its Chinese owner, ByteDance, over national security worries. While Canada's review focuses solely on TikTok's investment intentions and is unlikely to result in a ban like in the U.S. These really seem like tough time for TikTok in the west. 😕 This fight against tiktok could spread to other western and european countries if the US and Canada kick them out! Lets see how this goes. #technology #innovation #china #tiktok #creativity #tiktok

https://lnkd.in/gU9vHqAH A fascinating account of the rise and fall, (and, hopefully…resurgence) of one of my favorite media brands growing up. Sadly, so much of this history is prevalent today – not least of which is outdated and onerous regulations, media consolidation, trying to copy the competition and not keeping pace with new technology. An unprecedented confluence of factors contributes to current declines in legacy media while our audience looks for new ways to consume content in Canada. That audience isn’t getting smaller, media consumption continues to climb, but legacy media’s ability to connect with them in a meaningful way is rapidly losing ground. Cutting costs to foster growth is not a solution. Embracing innovation, taking calculated risks, moving on from what’s worked in the past and, dare I say it…, reasonable but effective deregulation, will yield results. And to be fair, this is not just a Canadian problem.

All good things come to an end, so I invite you to read the 2 last case studies from our excellent series! 🔚 Before Canada's cannabis legalization, Uber's campaign for safe conduct was vital, resulting in a vibrant educational site offering alternatives to driving high. Simultaneously, Netflix's "Roma" movie release needed a hub for community discourse and live Q&As with the director, forming a nucleus for audience engagement. 🥳 Utilizing rapid development methods and modern tech, a ready-for-traffic campaign site was launched in 1.5 months. In contrast, the "Roma" microsite nurtured a dynamic community with director-fan exchanges and story sharing, enhancing viewer bonds through enriched conversations. 👥 Read the full Uber story here: https://bit.ly/45Fi6x3 Read the full Netflix story here: https://bit.ly/460rFq1 Have a non-standard idea? At the weekend, my brother went to one of the many festivals happening in the UK this Summer. Like many families, we have a WhatsApp group between me and my siblings (called ‘Siblings’ – very creative I know!) and so my brother was messaging the group, telling us how much fun he was having, no doubt with the intention of making us a teeny bit jealous. Here’s a sneak peek of our messages: “Hope you are having the best time today, Rich – stay safe!” from my sister. “Thank you, I got a rubbish video of our favourite song at the moment!” from my brother. “Ooooh send it, wish we were there!” me. “I’m trying! But the signal is rubbish” from my brother. And that’s the reality with connectivity at big events, isn’t it? Networks are so busy, everyone’s experience is bad. This isn’t new news and on the whole, we just accept it, although insight from the latest Ericsson Consumer Lab report suggests consumers are 3 times likely to churn from their provider from that bad experience. Whilst telco’s are working hard to improve the network experience at big events, there’s an opportunity to do more. Another statistic from the Consumer Lab report is that 20% of smartphone users are willing to pay an average premium of 11 percent for QoS-led offerings. But what does a QoS offering look like? Picture this…. You’re at the festival you have been looking forward to all year, when you get there, you receive a pop up on your phone, saying something like ‘Hey! Want a premium network experience whilst you’re partying with us? Now you can! Follow this link to find out more’ and you’re then taken to a page where, for a small cost, you get this premium network. Consumer value is everything when it comes to fan experiences and capturing the value of 5G is where the leaders will stand out most. ⚠ ⚡ on 14 March, TikTok received a 10M euros fine from the Italian consumer authority (#AGCM). The Authority has decided that #TikTok (among others) has failed to implement appropriate mechanisms to monitor contents that may threaten the safety of minors and vulnerable individuals. See the authority's press release here: https://lnkd.in/e4Cw_vcm GOOD TO KNOW: Several of these issues (harmful contents for minors, unfair practices and others) were already highlighted by BEUC - The European Consumer Organisation in its complaint as early as... 2021: --> see our report and our evidence here: https://lnkd.in/ebaePiiC (on pp.34 to 36). --> and more information about our CPC alert: www.beuc.eu/tiktok, Based on this decision, the #CPCNetwork and #EuropeanCommission must now take a stronger stance against TikTok to protect European consumers of all ages.
