Egypt targets 56 million tons per year of green hydrogen by 2040 🔷 A report by the New and Renewable Energy Authority of Egypt revealed the country's target of producing 56 million tons of green hydrogen annually, by 2040, with a total investment of $60 billion from 5 to 8% of the global market. 🔷 According to the report cited by the Egyptian newspaper Al-Sadoum, this step is part of keeping pace with the global momentum around the hydrogen economy and developing reliance on it to reduce carbon emissions and achieve energy security and diversification. 🔷 Egypt has developed policies and regulatory frameworks to develop the low-carbon hydrogen economy In 2023, Egypt launched the National Green Hydrogen Strategy through cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). 🔷 The national green hydrogen strategy is applied in 3 phases: 🔸 Pilot projects during the period from 2020-2029. 🔸 Expansion of the market from 2030-2039. 🔸 Full market by 2040. 🔷 The report stated that by the beginning of 2024, a package of incentives had been launched to encourage the green hydrogen industry, consisting of tax incentives, tariff exemptions, investment incentives, port fee cuts, reductions in exchange for utilization of hydrogen plant land and an increase in the number of licenses issued for green hydrogen production projects and derivatives up to 50 years. #energyticslimited #renerableenergy #energyefficiency #energyinnovation #greenhydrogen #egypt

Egypt is increasingly becoming a sought-after destination for green hydrogen investments. Following the surge of projects announced post COP27, the government has now inked seven additional cooperation agreements for #greenhydrogen and #renewableenergy projects which could result in investments of over USD 40 billion over the next ten years. Mubadala is joining in the modern day goldrush for #greenhydrogen, focused on #Australia where the government is backing efforts to utilize renewable energy for new industrial purposes. The Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund is collaborating with Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) to invest in Perdaman’s US$4.2 billion Western Australia Urea project, which stands out as one of the world’s biggest fertilizer production facilities. The development of the green hydrogen sector is spurred by the rapidly falling costs of renewables, which will continue to push production costs of hydrogen down. Mubadala is not the first state-owned investor to advance Australia’s burgeoning green hydrogen actor. GIC has a stake in InterContinental Energy, which is targeting nearly 100GW of total installed renewables capacity, including involvement in Western Australia’s massive US$36 billion Asian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH) project. Could the Neom Green Hydrogen Project, a joint venture between Saudi-based renewable company Acwa Power, the US’ Air Products and Saudi Arabia’s city of Neom, provide a model to help global hydrogen projects advance commercially? The green hydrogen project is currently the largest of its kind and aims to produce 600 tons of green hydrogen per day when it becomes fully operational in 2026. MUSCAT: A pair of land blocks is due to be awarded next month under the second round of Oman’s international auction process governing the allocation of renewables-rich land parcels for green hydrogen investment.
