Charity of survivors for children and adults subjected to domestic abuse. Providing survivor-led support services. Educating voluntary and statutory services about all forms of domestic abuse and its harmful effects.
Day 5: #PSAAW Post separation abuse is too often disbelieved, minimised, or ignored... Mostly, those being subjected to it are blamed by services, told to ignore it, move on, or stop reporting!!! Would you say that if they were still living with the abuser??? To clarify, none of it should EVER be said. It is victim blaming and something that over 67%of people subjected to PSA have also had. This enables the perpetrator to further and silence the victim-survivor, yet it is the MOST dangerous time for them!! The version of someone you see is not always who they truly are!! Please male sure you are educated on all areas of abuse and reality!! We must create a society where abuse is NEVER tolerated, ignored, pr minimised and that there are prevention, protection, and accountability!! Thank you to all those who hear, believe, validate, and protect, we need more of you 🙏 🎗 #post #separation #abuse #victimblaming #victimblamingiswrong #awareness #awarenessweek #educate #ongoing #dangerous #breakthesilence #silencing #wrong #highlight #raiseawareness #8stages #understanding #validation #prevention #protection #accountability #deterrent #neverok

There's nothing like a celebrity domestic violence media frenzy to remind us how deeply vicitm-blaming is entrenched in our culture. The recent online vitriol aimed at the survivor of a caught on hotel security footage attack for not leaving him sooner is... really something. Our new blog post details the tactics abusers use to prevent their victims from leaving. If you have ever heard about an abusive relationship and had the thought about the victim "why don't they just leave?" we hope you will learn more about the realities of abuse tactics and start asking instead "what is the abusive person doing to prevent them from leaving?". #BelieveSurvivors #SupportSurvivors #SafetyPlan #SafetyPlanning #abusiverelationships #partnerabuse #toxicrelationships #domesticviolence #intimatepartnerviolence #techforgood #myPlanApp

ABUSE IS ABOUT POWER & CONTROL AND IT THRIVES IN SILENCE. 1️⃣ Tension Building - Tensions Increase, breakdown of communication, the victim becomes fearful and feels the need to placate the abuser. 2️⃣ Incident - Verbal, emotional & physical abuse. Anger, blaming, arguing, threats, and intimidation. 3️⃣ Reconciliation - Abuser apologizes, gives excuses, blames the victim, denies the abuse occurred, or says that it wasn't as bad as the victim claims. 4️⃣ Calm - Incident is "forgotten”, no abuse is taking place. The "honeymoon" phase. Abuse is only the perpetrator's fault, we believe you. ➡️ Please help us raise awareness by sharing this post! _______ If you or someone you know may be impacted by domestic/intimate partner violence, rape/sexual assault, child abuse, or human trafficking call our 24-hour hotline: (516) 542-0404. #stopsexualabuse #domesticviolenceprevention #domesticviolenceawareness #stopdomesticviolence

October is Domestic Violence month I wish I could link the video of the case during COVID where it was being held via virtual app and the woman seemed hesitant about answering the questions posed to her. It may have been the District Attorney who realized something was wrong and quietly summoned officers to the home where the defendant was in the other room. Without the quick thinking and observations of the attorney who knows what would’ve happened. Prime example of this arm of power and control, but not the only way it is exhibited. 💡When asking client about abuse, don’t just listen for the words, but observe the manner in which it is answered 💡When listening to the answers given about abuse, realize that the abuse whether physical or not may have become normalized and not viewed as abuse 💡Lastly, remember that the client may not feel safe or trust that you will be able to provide safety if they do decide to disclose their true situation. Day 18 of domestic violence awareness Abuse is not a phase in any intimate partner relationship. It is a deliberate, repeated behaviour used to establish and maintain power and control over a partner. Viewing abuse as a phase implies that it may eventually pass, which dangerously minimizes its severity and potential for escalation. In reality, intimate partner violence (IPV) can become more frequent and severe over time. Read more https://lnkd.in/d-5z2j8U

👉 Why don't you just leave? 👉 Why didn't you leave the first time they hit you? 👉 What did you to make them hit you? 👉 Really? I Can't believe they would do that to you, it seems so unlike them 👉 They are always so nice to me though 👉 Maybe they just had a bad day Domestic abuse happens because perpetrators choose to abuse. No one chooses to be a victim. It takes a lot of courage to open up about what they have endured. You have to proceed cautiously and respectuflly. Survivors have had a hard time stepping forward and speaking out about domestic abuse, this is due to victim blaming. Whenever a survivor makes a disclosure they should be believed, listened too and heard. Show you believe and support them by validating their words saying things such as:- 👉 This is not your fault 👉 You're not alone 👉 I believe you #CoerciveControl #DomesticAbuse #Awareness

How can I help someone who has experienced a sexual assault? April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and an opportunity for people who have experienced sexual assault to talk about an important topic oftentimes pushed into the shadows. We don't talk about it for many reasons including - but certainly not limited to: We think it was our fault We are scared about retaliation We think we will be judged by others We think that our experience doesn't count Shame and fear attached to these thoughts can keep people from coming forward, confiding in loved ones, and from getting the help they need to heal. Here are some things you can say to someone who has recently been sexually assaulted...perhaps these are things you need to hear: You didn't deserve what happened to you Your story counts Your experience is valid You are not alone Someone is sexually assaulted in the United States every 68 seconds. Find out how you can help your community, someone you love, and perhaps yourself. Contact the blue bench here in Colorado for more information about both prevention and care. https://thebluebench.org/

Disabled Voice & Advocate | Grief Coach | Death Midwife | Harm Reductionist | Community Care Worker | Peer Supporter | Accessible & Adaptive Yoga Teacher
When I first wrote about my experience with intimate partner violence, I didn’t have the words for something I was going through: substance use coercion. Looking back, I now see how my partner used my substance use to control, manipulate, and discredit me. This form of abuse is more common than many realize, and we must continue talking about it and educating others. It’s also a reminder of why survivor-led, survivor-centered Harm Reduction is so crucial when supporting those navigating IPV. This is why I’m committed to advocating for peer support and harm reduction as essential parts of domestic violence and substance use services. I dream of a future where survivor-led peer support is a standard in DV shelters. Trigger warning: Sexual assault Seeing the headlines about Weinstein's overturned conviction is a punch in the gut. It's hard not to feel angry and frustrated. You may be feeling triggered or reliving your own experiences right now. This is a difficult period for survivors. Last year, Rowena Chiu, a courageous survivor of Weinstein's abuse, shared her experience with us. Her strength is inspiring; Rowena discussed the trauma of sexual assault, and her empowering road to recovery and fighting for justice. In 2017, when the sharing of #MeToo stories surged, our Sexual Assault Care Centre experienced an 80% increase in calls—not just a temporary spike, but a new baseline for our call volume. This increase may indicate survivors' greater hope that their accounts will be believed, as well as a better understanding of their own experiences, prompted by hearing from others with similar stories. This is the power of speaking out.
