I beat myself up for a solid year because no one told me ⬇️ That there are actually 4 distinct phases of a military transition. Phase 1 - 18 months prior to EAS (end of active service) Phase 2 - the last + first 6 months on either side of your EAS Phase 3 - 18 months - 3 years as a civilian in your first corporate job Phase 4 - the moment you realize you hate your corporate job AND don’t know what else to do ****because**** ➡️ you went into an industry/role that is close enough what you did on active duty without asking yourself if it's what you REALLY wanted. Any of this sound familiar? It should. It’s my story, too. I thought transitioning into my civilian job meant that I “made it.” What I didn’t realize then that I know NOW is that that first or second job is meant to be a springboard not a landing pad! 🔥 There is a way to rediscover your post-service purpose + identity and do work that fills your cup. Let’s talk about these stickers…. I’ve just completed my final Permanent Change of Station (PCS in military vernacular). As I peel off the stickers from our belongings, I'm reminded of the previous nine transitions. Each one symbolizes more than just a change of location—it marks the beginning of a new chapter. With my new permanent station in life being a military retiree, these stickers now represent a different transition. This is the start of my next mission: finding a fulfilling post-service career. This transitional journey into civilian life and embarking on a career search has been challenging, but it's also filled with opportunities. Being a people person, the networking opportunities have provided so much insight allowing me to build meaningful connections. I believe this networking will be the key to finding my next career. I’m sure I’ll find these stickers on the back of furniture, yard equipment, and other random places for years. When I find the orange ones, I look forward to reflecting on how this final move shaped my new chapter. TREASURED MOMENTS 🙏💚🙏 We all have treasured moments in our lives and careers.This is the pinnacle of my career's treasured moments (not career goals). Being the Commanding Officer's driver of the Second Royal Pacific Island Regiment (2RPIR, Moem Barracks), is a daunting task. Time punctuality, dress code, military protocols, military VIP protocols, civilian VIP protocols, vehicle preparedness and cleanliness, daily situational awareness and alertness, commanding officer's leisure time, personal family obligations, family time and moments, wife and kids needs and wants, household needs and wants, household chores, yard cleanliness, limited family time, on call 24/7, coming back home late (2200hrs, 2400hrs, 0100hrs, 0300hrs or even the morning of next day) and limited sleep and hangover 🤦😀😀. To personally rub shoulders with prominent figures, people of high status, influential people, PLWD, marginalized groups and all walks of life people, I had come to understand and learned a lot in life. Whatever we do in life, do it with love, passion and determination. Love the job that you do and not the package that's attached with it and you'll see that the daunting task is just a minor obstacle. SERVICE BEFORE SELF. Perform your job or duties with pride even though things don't seem to fall on your track MANAGEMENT CHALLENGE!! Try not to always manage individual beings, but manage individual PERSPECTIVES and see how successful you'll become in your role. 🫡🫡

This is a great tip for my #militarytransition connections. As I get close to my #transition, I’ve been agonizing over what to focus on; do I target a specific area that I want to live in, or do I look for specific companies or jobs? I do have a few specific areas in mind so it’s good know that I should lean into that for now.

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🤓 A lot of posts on LinkedIn talk about the transition out of the Armed Forces but what about transitions within the military..? About once a day at the moment people ask me how I'm finding the transition from my previous job to my current one or how I'm finding being back in the Air Engineering world. Last week someone started a meeting with 'I know you've been out of the branch for a while so a quick reminder on this topic'... and I WAS SO GRATEFUL 🙏 It helped give me a much needed foundation in something I once knew but have since forgotten (thank you Will Kemp from 1710 NAS)! The new team I have joined have helped me get back into the fold and whilst I think it's going to take me longer than I originally thought, it's great to be surrounded by people who have so much experience and understanding. ✨️ A few things that have made the transition between two very different roles easier... 👫 A good team (new & old faces)! ⚓️ A crazy mad love for Royal Navy and 🇬🇧 Defence's vision! ❓️A culture where I feel safe to question things I don't understand. 😃 Smiling. A lot. I find LinkedIn as such a powerful tool for improving your network and learning what opportunities there are within Defence! It's not all about 'going outside'. ✌️
