"Many people in the LGBTQ+ community avoid dealing with our financial health for the same reasons that we delay care to manage our physical and mental health. There is a real fear of rejection, a real fear of stigma, and those are real barriers to access whether you're talking about a doctor, a financial advisor, or a banker. So, for many of us, another significant barrier is trauma that we've experienced at the hands of both health systems and financial systems." Alex Sheldon (they/them), Executive Director of GLMA This #QueerMoneyPodcast interview with GLMA's Executive Director delves into how the barriers the LGBTQ+ community faces in financial services often parallel those in healthcare systems; and why queer folks often invest less but spend more on care than their cisgender or heterosexual counterparts. This a great deep dive into GLMA's initiatives and programs, as well as the broader landscape of LGBTQ+ health! 🎧 Listen to the full episode: https://loom.ly/18rdWKk #GLMA #LGBTQHealth #HealthEquity #QueerMoney #FinancialHealth

LGBTQ+ youth often struggle to access quality treatment due to factors such as discrimination, lack of familial and school support, and inadequate care from providers lacking cultural competency. In this article, James Polo, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Carelon Behavioral Health, emphasizes that the way forward is to educate the LGTBQ+ youth community about treatment options, train providers to use LGBTQ+-inclusive guidelines in treatment, and leverage Telebehavioral Health (TBH) where experienced therapists aren’t available. 🌈 We are supporting Pride Month at RSS Imperial & Partners Hub. Research shows that health and social care disparities relating to sexual orientation and gender identity impact on multiple outcomes. Structural stigma contributes towards poor health for those with LGBTQ+ identities. There is more work to be done: both to understand and offer remedy for these inequities. Within our Hub we are dedicated to supporting innovation in research, especially projects that include more voices, and focus on addressing these kinds of health inequalities. There are links to the INCLUDE project & guidance in our comments. This focuses on the inclusion of under-served groups, including LGBTQ+ groups, in clinical research 🌈 #PrideMonth #HealthInequalities #HealthInclusion #ResearchInclusion

As we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, it's important we acknowledge the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people. Research and studies from organizations across the globe show that LGBTQ+ people struggle with their mental health at higher rates than those who identify as heterosexual. This is paired with a lack of trust by the community in the healthcare system and larger systemic inequities in healthcare specific to LGBTQ+ needs. This all leads to unnecessarily problematic, dangerous, and unfair healthcare outcomes. It’s why approaching health and wellbeing with an intersectional and inclusive lens, while prioritizing LGBTQ+ health and wellness specifically, is incredibly important. For members of the community who are seeking resources and support, we encourage you to connect with other organizations like The Trevor Project, Trans Lifeline, and the LGBT National Hotline. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Starting Pride Month on a reflective note, we recognize the significance of recent milestones: International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT) and Pansexual Awareness & Visibility Day. 🌈 IDAHOT, established in 2004, reminds us of the ongoing battle against discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. It sets the stage for Pride season, urging us to unite, resist, support, and heal, bringing forth a positive change. 🌈 Pansexual Awareness & Visibility Day, observed on May 24th, amplifies the voices of pansexual individuals, combating prejudice within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. Pansexuality, encompassing attraction irrespective of gender, emphasizes the importance of diversity and inclusivity in all spheres of life, including workplaces and service delivery. 🌈 Moreover, as May draws to a close, we acknowledge Mental Health Awareness Month, highlighting mental health's crucial role in our overall well-being. By cultivating open conversations and education, we can eradicate the stigma surrounding mental illness, ensuring those in need receive the support and treatment they deserve. This Pride Month, let's educate and be aware ourselves of the struggles we've had but the journey that still lay ahead of us, and most importantly recognize the intersectionality and understand where we lie in that. Let's celebrate by listening, speaking up and lifting others! #PrideMonth #IDAHOT #PansexualVisibility #MentalHealthAwareness #Intersectionality
