Daniel H. Wagner Associates is applying a general framework for artificial intelligence, known as reinforcement learning, to problems of interest to the #USNavy. These problems involve an agent or decision maker who interacts with an environment, in order to achieve a goal, such as destroy a target or protect the force). Reinforcement learning provides a framework for determining the optimal decisions to make given each environmental state. In this project, DHW is focused on providing an intelligent assistant for the Aegis and/or Integrated Combat System (ICS) Watch Officer, but the machine learning approach they are developing could support any decision process for which sufficient training material was available.
