It's not enough to hire talent. A firm has to keep them. This means engaging them, finding out more about them than their favorite pizza, and providing a clear path for promotion. In May, 2023 BigHand gathered a total of 825 responses from law firm leaders, operations teams, HR and resource managers/ work allocation teams from firms of 50+ lawyers from North America and the UK. The tendency to follow recent trends without long term consistency is indeed a challenge. "Implementing" diversity as a policy rather than fostering a cultural integration that resonates with everyone is a noteworthy point.The narrow focus on certain common metrics such as recruitment, promotion is noted, and the article rightly emphasizes the importance of embracing diversity as a cultural ethos, ensuring a meaningful experience for everyone!
Companies use tools like diversity training, hiring tests, and performance ratings to try to reduce bias. But these things are usually just making the issues worse.
