Changemakers at work! 🌎 As part of the Earth Day Challenge, Burlingame High School students created an inspiring campaign for clean transportation to school. 🚲 "We aimed to inspire people in our community to take initiative and think about the ways they can make their lives more sustainable," they shared. Building on their campaign, students hosted a Clean Commute Day, during which students, teachers, and staff biked, walked, or carpooled to school. Congratulations!🌟 #seisustainability Learn more about the Earth Day Challenge here: https://ow.ly/IpXn50St6Xq

Did you hear the story about the sloths? We're often asked where the concept of wayvie came from. ➡️”What drives us to create and grow wayvie?” Well, the answer to this takes us back to when Pete Starr FF.ISP's children were younger. Children absorb so much information, and one day they came home from school talking about what was happening to sloths in the rainforest, and how their natural ecosystem is endangered. Talking through this with his children (and watching Sir David Attenborough with them) the penny dropped for Pete - the earth has set a target, and it’s our responsibility to do what we can to hit that target! Having worked with organisations across the UK in people development, it became clear to Pete that one of the most powerful ways that his team could drive change is to enhance the skills of people within the green industry to create a positive ripple effect. We’ve set out to share our knowledge and support people to be brilliant, so that brilliant organisations can have an even bigger impact on the world we live in. I'm a primary teacher, forest school leader, and coastal activity leader trained, lead teacher trained, masters in Learning for Sustainability, etc. What they've all taught me is that outdoor learning, in its many guises, is essential; whether that be forest school, outdoor play or curriculum based outdoor learning or one of the many other types. Forest School isn't the right fit for every school but that doesn't mean pupils need to stay indoors. Sustained time outdoors is as important as finding the approach that works for each individual school.
Outdoor Education Specialist, Consultant, Trainer, Facilitator and Author- reconnecting all with nature for the benefit of people and planet.
I've heard people say "Forest School is dead"- a victim of its own success! As an Outdoor Educator I've witnessed the huge benefits associated with Forest School, I've seen it change lives and I know it's worth fighting for. So, let's give Forest School to those who can commit to its beauty and show those who can't a different way to thrive that better meets their needs! #forestschool #outdooreducation #outdoorlearning #sustainability #education #naturepremium

Radiating Hope: Juhi Consulting's Founder/Director Empowers End of Care Landscapes with Creativity and Transformation
Post-conference, I was eager to be in community, listening. 👂 #CommunityListening #ConnectionMatters #LearningTogether #CommunityEngagement #DialogueContinues #CommunityFirst I acquired an intricate drawing of symbolic trees during a recent learning tour, and upon bringing it home, my partner took the initiative to frame it using recycled materials. Here are some images I'm sharing—a picture tells a thousand words! In this dynamic era of history marked by widespread change, the most valuable trends revolve around the central role of communities. Time-space compression opens up endless possibilities for connecting, adapting, rethinking, and collaborating to uphold well-being wherever we call home. Despite distances of over 2000 kilometres, our discussions delve into profound topics such as end-of-life and death care and choices, including natural burial. We navigate common challenges when engaging with cemetery management and highlight the importance of respectful dialogue (more listening to understand), memorialisation and maintenance. Additionally, we explore the intricate domains of restoring and preserving cultural landscapes. These conversations reveal that we share common values and concerns and emphasise our similarities over our differences. #SymbolicArt #RecycledArt #LearningJourney #Community #Wellbeing #TimeSpaceCompression #GlobalConnections #Memorialisation #SutainableLiving #LifeReflections #NaturalBurial #EndofLife #Conversations #CemeteryEngagement #RespectfulDialogue #ListeningtoUnderstand #CulturalPreservation #Artwork #CommonValues #SharedExperiences #Unity

Coming out of the Campus Compact 24 Conference last week, transitioning to #NationalWeekofConversation and #EarthMonth - takeaways, connections, motivations are abundant. I'm inspired by the humility, vulnerability, and capacity for deep collaboration expressed through storytelling that centers on trust, partnership, and rewards deeper than risks. Stories are born out of a willingness to share personal reflections, respond to curious questions, and engage in courageous listening. Stories fuel meaningful conversations. Narratives of all kinds (oral, written, visual, on and on) and from a multitude of voices are central to truly understanding our shared AND unique experiences; narratives light our future pathways. Ultimately, the combination of storytelling and conversation can be action oriented, in and of itself, or spur us towards action. I'm motivated by heroes all around, who lead by listening, who lead by sharing, and who lead with curiosity spurring me on to action. With thousands #storiesofservice, and as we near Earth Day tomorrow, I want to re-share Brittany's words (https://lnkd.in/erMkqPxb), an AmeriCorps member who served with Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps. I want to celebrate the more than 14,600 AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who treated more than 3 million acres of parks and public land and more than 25,000 miles of trails and rivers last year alone. Lastly, I want to offer up the Climate Change Discussion Guide as a resource that may help you express your own WHY, hear the WHYs of others, and support / spur your ACTIONS. Bit.ly/ClimateGuide24 In grateful partnership with BridgeUSA, Service Year Alliance, America's Service Commissions, Campus Compact, American Conservation Coalition and The Corps Network. #DisagreeBetter #BridgingInService

📊 Did you know? In water-scarce areas, many households resort to water rationing to meet their daily needs. This practice disproportionately affects women and girls, often leaving them at a disadvantage. 🚺 Women are more likely to bear the responsibility of collecting water for their families, which can consume hours each day. Water rationing means they have less time for education, work, and personal well-being. 💪 We're on a mission to change this reality. By providing sustainable access to clean water, we empower women to reclaim their time, pursue their dreams, and contribute to their communities. Join us in making a difference. Let's create a world where clean water is accessible to all, and where women are not held back by water scarcity. 💧🌍

Fifteen years ago I learned the ropes of the creative and non-profit sectors as a young female snow sports photographer (a rare role in the male-dominated ski/snowboard industry) . While capturing images in the backcountry, I witnessed the glaring effects of climate change on the landscapes I photographed – shorter winter seasons, warmer storm temperatures, and receding glaciers. Early in my career, I recognized the power of grassroots activations for environmental change, which inspired me to join Protect Our Winters (POW). At POW, I advocated for climate policy measures and led seminars about climate change in middle and high schools throughout the country. Engaging with students nationwide underscored the importance of tailoring initiatives to a community's unique economic, political, and social characteristics to drive bottom-up change and foster environmental allies. Those early experiences played a crucial role in my formative years, especially in managing chronic anxiety as a young adult. While medication and therapy were helpful, I found that spending time outdoors was the most effective remedy for my symptoms. I've been fortunate to find that snowboarding, above everything else, helps ease my mental health struggles. My work today involves leveraging my background in the arts to integrate creativity into scientific communication and make environmental learning more relatable. Using art and highlighting positive solutions breaks down barriers and bridges the gaps between scientific knowledge, nature-based mental health solutions (like the clinical benefits of an urban park walk or riding down mountains), and the broader community. For sustainable progress to occur, there must be a collective understanding between cultural values and equitable access to resources to solve the needs of both today and the future. Just some rambling food for thought for a better world <3 x #mentalhealth #climateaction #commonground #snowboarding #protectourwinters

How can you bring Earth Day to life with your students not only today but throughout the year? Engaging kids in summer camps offers a fantastic opportunity to instill environmental awareness and action. Here is how! 👐 Hands-On Activities: Incorporate interactive sessions like gardening, recycling crafts, or nature walks to deepen their connection with the environment. 📚 Education Through Fun: Utilize games, storytelling, and creative projects to teach about sustainability, climate change, and conservation in an enjoyable way. ♻ Role Modeling: Lead by example by practicing eco-friendly habits during camp activities, demonstrating the importance of reducing waste, conserving resources, and respecting nature. 👩👩👧👦 Community Engagement: Organize group initiatives such as park clean-ups or tree planting, fostering a sense of responsibility towards local ecosystems and communities. 💪 Empowerment: Encourage kids to brainstorm and implement their own eco-friendly initiatives, nurturing their sense of agency and leadership in environmental stewardship. By integrating these approaches into youth summer camps, we can nurture a generation of environmentally conscious individuals who are equipped to make a positive impact on our planet. 🌍🌱 #EnvironmentalEducation #YouthEmpowerment #SummerCamps
