We can thank the Sahara for dampening the hyperactive storm season temporarily. From ABC's 16 WAPT, "The main reason behind the quiet tropics in the Atlantic Basin is a thick plume of Saharan dust. Dry air like Saharan dust makes it very difficult for a tropical system to form and intensify." The Saharan Dust will impede storm formation in the Atlantic Basin for 7 to 10 days, but the peak of this year's nascent storm season is expected mid-September.
