Leading with vision, purpose, and integrity. Delivering value through innovation and commercial acumen.
Exciting and important announcement for the Defence industry in Victoria and nationally, with particular reference to the role of the Industry Capability Network (ICN): page 12: “...Defence is working on analysing and mapping our sovereign defence industrial base and its many supply chains. This includes our collaboration with trusted international partners, including assessments of capability, capacity and resilience to meet Defence’s requirements. Defence will draw on a range of information sources to build this data, including the Industry Capability Network...” page 43: “...Industrial intelligence capability. Defence is building its industry and market intelligence, which will offer greater insights into the capability and capacity of defence industry. This is critical for the early stages of developing capability initiatives and informing industry engagement, solicitation and tender evaluation strategies. Access to analytical tools, market research and industry engagement is key to delivering capability at speed. The Industry Capability Network platform is a key example of an industry data source that is capable of supporting this approach. This capability will assist in building a resilient industrial base, by providing the information needed to assess the capacity, size, and scale to meet Australian defence needs...” Industry Capability Network - Victoria Katherine Smith Nick Foa Jennifer Peck BSc Tariro Makwasha Lynn Johnsonn Peter McCracken #HelpLocalWin #defenceindustry #localjobs #defenceinnovation

Lots of networking conversations about the valuable role of SMEs supporting Australia’s sovereign defence industry took place at the Defence and & Space Industry 2024 Overview event hosted by Engineers Australia last week. With over 180 people present, the paper developed by Engineers Australia and delivered to Government on Growing Australia's Space Capability was well received by all. With fellows and members of Engineers Australia in our team, Systematiq attended to hear updates from the Defence Council Victoria, Australian Industry & Defence Network Victoria (AIDN VIC) and receive an introduction to the newly formed Victorian Defence and Space Network (VDSN). These events are a great opportunity for staff from defence SMEs to get together, share our participation in the defence program and highlight the value we bring by: • Raising the profile of new technologies and innovative companies in software development, specialist engineering and other in demand capabilities. • Addressing capability gaps within the defence industry. • Upskilling defence personnel with our expertise. • Responding to procurement and tender processes on behalf of tech-savvy and innovative Australian businesses eager to support Australia’s defence needs locally. VDSN was established by the Victorian Government and is supported by AIDN. Its vision is to promote and grow Victorian industry and its capabilities to the supply chains of both Defence and Space domains. Systematiq is looking forward to attending and supporting the many events planned for 2024. #DefenceIndustry #DefenceCapability #DefenceConsulting

Day 1 of ISA. Chairing and Speaking on a panel on "#Emerging #Technologies and Their Implications for International #Security" this morning. Abstract of my paper/talk: In the last decade or so, a great deal of attention has been focused on emerging technologies, like #cybertechnology, #hypersonics, additive manufacturing, #AI, #UAVs/#robotics, and what their development and implementation may mean for international security in terms of #strategic stability, #armscontrol, #deterrence, escalation, instability, balance of power; #defense capabilities, #counterproliferation, #counterterrorism, and the future of warfare often disconnected from scholarship on #emergingtechnology in the #lifesciences. The life sciences are an area comparatively understudied in context global politics, international security, and shaping the defense strategy. #Nanobiotechnology is a part of the life sciences and also example of a converging area of science and technology. #Technologicalconvergence is the result of two or more technologies that when brought together enable a capability or system that exceeds what one technology would enable individually. This work seeks to fill part of that identified gap and propose pathways to methodologically assessing the impacts of truly emerging technologies more empirically. https://lnkd.in/ewPb3kqK

Great to be in Canberra yesterday at the Land Environment Working Group (LEWG) at Hotel Realm. Similar to the Maritime briefing last week, it was an excellent opportunity to hear from the Defence Force on current and future land capability priorities and investment plans. Some of the key take aways for industry were that no unsolicited proposals will be accepted outside of the ASCA (Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator) and if projects slip, their funding will be reallocated. The Australian Defence Force will move to an integrated, focused force across the five domains of maritime, land, air, space and cyber which are all represented in the IIP. Further analysis is being done to simplify the ASDEFCON suite of tender templates by approximately 40-50% which will be welcome news to Australian SMEs and the industry supply chain who struggle with the complexity of the current template structure. As always, it was an excellent opportunity to connect with clients and ADF members to talk in more detail about requirements and opportunities. #defence #collaboration #systematiq

🇪🇺 #Security will be one of the key themes for the next EU Mandate: While defence remains primarily a competence of the Member States, the volatile international environment has pushed the EU to intensify its coordination efforts in defence industrial policy, aiming to enhance efficiency, foster a defence industrial culture, and integrate sustainability and digital innovation. Instruments like the European Defence Industrial Strategy (hashtag #EDIS), aim at boosting the Union's defence capabilities through smarter spending and supply chain resilience, while fostering innovation and investment. 💡Our Blandine Ronsse analyses the cross-sectorial impact that EDIS will have on the EU policy landscape and industry.
