💻In November 2023, a team of Secappians participated in the Taisto exercise organized by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency of Finland. It is a desktop exercise that simulates different topical threats, crises and exceptional situations that any organization may encounter in its daily operations. During the exercise, our team had the opportunity to analyze and develop our organization’s readiness and preparedness through example situations. What were our most important takeaways from the exercise? 💡It was an interesting and educational experience, which highlighted the fact that in a crisis, every second truly matters 💡Continuous practice is an essential part of preparedness 💡The better planned the communication, the more smoothly actions can be taken 💡Ready-made message templates, recipient groups, checklists and clear areas of responsibility enable a faster reaction in stressful situations 💡During the exercise, Secapp served as a good platform for group discussion and video conferencing – additionally, it is also a handy tool in itself for implementing various exercises 👉Take a closer look at our reflections on the exercise in our blog! #secapp #Taisto #cybersecurity #communication #everysecondmatters

Essential Holiday Prep for IT Teams: Ensuring Peace of Mind As we approach the holiday season, it's crucial for IT teams to ensure everything is in order for a smooth and secure break. Here are some key tips to consider: 1. Backup and Update: Ensure all systems are backed up and critical updates are applied. This is the perfect time to double-check your backup processes and recovery plans. 2. Set Up Alerts and Monitoring: With fewer staff on duty, automated monitoring systems can be a lifesaver. Set up alerts for any critical systems to ensure you're notified of any issues immediately. 3. Review Cybersecurity Protocols: The holiday season often sees a spike in cyber threats. Review and reinforce your cybersecurity measures, and remind the team about the importance of vigilance. 4. Establish On-Call Rotations: Determine who will be on call during the holidays. Make sure they have access to necessary resources and support in case of emergencies. 5. Document and Communicate: Ensure all processes and contact details are documented and shared with the team. Clear communication can prevent small issues from turning into big problems. 6. Test Remote Access: With many staff working remotely over the holidays, ensure that remote access systems are functioning correctly and securely. 7. Plan for the Unexpected: Finally, have a contingency plan for unexpected situations. It's better to be over-prepared than caught off guard. Wishing all IT professionals a peaceful and problem-free holiday season! #ITHolidayPrep #Cybersecurity #Backup #ITManagement

Security awareness programs over the years have been lumped into the “training” category. Don’t jump right to the "let’s give them training camp”. Security awareness is about a culture change, communicating the security posture of the organisation. If your organisation is regulated, you are required to provide annual mandatory training for security. The typical default for this training is a CBT (Computer Based Training) module, because it’s easy to track and demonstrate compliance. But don’t stop there. In order to influence change in behaviour and culture, you need ongoing communications and content, not just once a year. This is where building a catalog of content and available resources is necessary. Build a portal where you can post newsletters, alerts and videos so your users come to you. Build a calendar of themes for the year either by month or quarter, and allow for flexibility. This enables you to address new threats that affect your organisation or industry. #securityawareness #informationsecurity #securitytraining #cyberdefense #humanrisk
