The interplay of heritage and nature 👏 to Lord Mendoza, Simon Thurley and Tony Juniper for this powerful new joint statement on integrating the management of the natural and historic environment https://lnkd.in/e-9cyJDJ. Nature includes landscape, historic features and cultural connections as well as habitats, species and geology. The interplay is complex and the chairs of Historic England, National Lottery Heritage Fund and Natural England underline that heritage has a role in nature recovery, and indeed natural environment management can help protect and conserve heritage and culture. Each place has many stories and interests and by collaborating we can achieve better places for wildlife, heritage and most importantly people.

Managing Partner & CEO of INTEGRA Group - Balancing Development with the Environment ■ EUROPARC Federation President ■ Partnership Foundation Board Member
Besides #natureconservation experts and #protectedareas managers, #rangers are certainly one of the most important professions in Protected Areas, if not the most important when it comes to communication with laymen. We talked with President of European Ranger Federation (ERF) Urs Reif about why this is so and how activities of EUROPARC Federation and ERF are related to each other.
If we want to preserve our natural resources, this can no longer just happen separately in protected areas. Working towards more sustainable development and nature conservation in local communities is also becoming increasingly urgent, not least in order to fulfil nature conservation goals such as the recently enacted EU Nature Restoration Law. Michael Hošek and Urs Reif agree that community development and the interests of the people must be taken into account – and that rangers are an important link in this process. In our double interview, the President of the EUROPARC Federation and the European Ranger Federation discuss starting points for closer cooperation in this regard, for example in the important role of junior rangers, and give an outlook on the work of the two nature conservation organisations for this year: Visit the News section on our website (or click link in first comment)! . . . #protectedareas #naturerestorationlaw #sdgs #30x30 #juniorranger #europeanrangers #rangers

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to beaches, if the water clarity isn't great I'll pass; it's the consequence of growing up on an island surrounded by fantastic beaches. A friend visiting from Cape Town commented on how beaches here seem to be a socio-economic equalizer - Barbadians from all walks of life flock to and can access the beaches. It's noteworthy then that an island that's only a tad bigger than half the size of the 5 boroughs of NYC put together has a maritime space over 400 times larger than its landmass - approximately the size of the state of Florida. This maritime space is the subject of a 50% tax credit for marine conservation and is at the centre of the conservation efforts funded by the much touted 2022 Barbados blue bond, jointly arranged by Credit Suisse and CIBC Caribbean and guaranteed by The Nature Conservancy and Inter-American Development Bank. But why should Bajans care? One good reason is that this can help protect our coral reefs, which play the role of a filter and prevent sediment from being suspended in the water - in simple terms they help maintain the crystal clear water I love.

The UK’s diverse #marine and #coastal #ecosystems play a critical role in underpinning our economy, health and wellbeing, but they are increasingly threatened by growing pressures. #NaturalCapitalMarkets provide a route to unlock much-needed #PrivateFinance to safeguard and restore our vital marine and coastal environments. Today we’ve published a first-of-its-kind roadmap to bring us one step closer to establishing high-integrity marine natural capital markets in the UK, building on existing actions across the country. This Roadmap, funded by The Crown Estate, Blue Marine Foundation, Crown Estate Scotland, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and University of Portsmouth and developed by Finance Earth and Pollination, was co-designed through a year-long initiative involving more than 200 UK and international stakeholders. It sets out recommendations and key actions for developing high-integrity markets that can support the conservation and restoration of the UK’s vital marine and coastal environments, delivering real, measurable value to people and nature. ✨ How would a Dolores Canyons National Monument help local communities address rising visitation to the Western Slope's public lands? 🏜️ Moab's John Weisheit offers his perspective from a community overrun by tourism: "To protect local values, customs and culture, communities will need to plan for the future of their surrounding public lands — and a national monument would provide an opportunity to do just that. The process would provide a path to permanently protect lands already managed for wildland values, plan for infrastructure upgrades to handle increased traffic, waste and strategically direct visitor flow to ensure a positive experience for everyone; all while protecting sensitive ecosystems and the rural character of the communities. Taken together this is not an easy task, but a wholly American enterprise." Read more in this op-ed: https://ow.ly/lwRu50Sx6y8 #ProtectTheDolores
