The first thing that I thought was "E tu Brute" when I watched this. Alas, he makes some great points about the performative nature of many, (most?) corporate ESG, responsibility, and DEI efforts. But the answer is to do better, not less. Companies and their leaders have a tough job. They are asked to produce goods and services that better our lives (and some of them do) and as many of us are investors, they are also asked to deliver us returns for our retirements and help grow the pie. So, we are putting them in a bit of a bind. Attach that to the "more is better" American way (one of our chief exports), the social media cauldron of hate and grievance, 24/7 media masquerading as news, and the ideological hijacking of identity, and you mix up a pretty toxic stew which it is not surprising we all, including companies, have a hard time navigating. I dont want to see companies devolve into red and blue culture war proxies but rather institutions that promote what we hold in common, nationally and globally. Common values, identity, and purpose. https://lnkd.in/gYmxJMbr

tl;dw 💵 It's Pride Month! While some corporations like Target are hiding their pride for the sake of loud conservatives, others are doing everything they can to virtue signal to consumers. Jon Stewart rips off the mask of corporate "values" and examines how corporations will perform caring about issues like DEI, climate change, or patriotism, as long as it means bigger profits, and how quickly they backtrack on those moral stands when it no longer suits their bottom line. #DailyShow #Pride #Diversity #Target https://lnkd.in/d4m-WQPZ

In #cultures of #politeness, dissent is a threat to #social harmony. #People nod and #smile even if they disagree, and silence fuels #groupthink. In cultures of #integrity, dissent is a sign of commitment to #quality. People voice their views, and #respectful debate #improves #decisions. Adam
