The Crane & Rigging Workshop will feature an amazing keynote speaker, Major (Ret.) Scotty Smiley. He became the first blind active-duty officer in military history following a face-to-face confrontation in 2005 with an Iraqi terrorist suicide car bomber. After his injury, Scotty’s faith led him to forgive his attacker and inspired him to rebuild his life while continuing to serve his country in the U.S. Army. Smiley then went on to tandem skydive with the U.S. Army's Golden Knights, climb Mount Rainier and complete a Coeur d'Alene Ironman. Major Smiley was also named "Soldier of the Year" in 2007 and ESPN awarded him an ESPY Award in 2008 as the best outdoor athlete. We want to hear from you about how you buy insurance and cover risk in this hard insurance market! Primary contacts should have received a link for an insurance survey, exclusively prepared by SC&RA. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete by the person assigned to insurance and risk management at your company. In exchange for your participation, you will get an early preview of the analysis. All responses are confidential and will be collected and benchmarked by an independent third-party research firm. The data will only be reported in group form and never for an individual or company. Questions? Contact [email protected]

Some very productive conversations were had today at the TxDOT Oversize-Overweight Workshop! Building upon previous conversations at February's Specialized Transportation Symposium, the forum addressed roadway design, permitting, and enforcement challenges in Texas, as well as ongoing OS/OW specific research on wind energy and permit-based planning trends from the Texas Transportation Institute. The workshop also featured a panel of industry experts, including Texas-based SC&RA Permit Policy Committee members Nick Wixom (Oxbo Mega Transport Solutions) and Marinus Martens (Frontier Heavy Haul & Support Inc.), Texas Trucking Association President John Esparza, and Chris Smith, SC&RA VP of Transportation, who each provided key state and regional industry feedback and recommendations. Many thanks to our partners and members in Texas as well as Texas Department of Transportation for the opportunity to continue the positive dialogue to help the industry move forward together!
