If you grow poinsettias, you're likely familiar with the challenges posed by whiteflies during the season. Whether it's reliance on preventative drenches, reactive spraying, or use of biological control agents (BCAs), it can be difficult to decide on the right approach for your specific situation. Feel free to reach out to GGSPro or your local Griffin Greenhouse Supplies sales representative directly for more information on the technical bulletins created by my team regarding preventative and knockdown whitefly management strategies. Here are some tips directly from our bulletin, “Poinsettia Whitefly Control Options”: 🐞 The best time to scout for whiteflies is in the morning when they are less active due to cooler temperatures. Focus on the undersides of leaves, particularly on new growth, as this is where whiteflies prefer to lay their eggs and all other life stages can be seen. 🐞 Bract-safe spray products fall into a limited group of MOAs (e.g., 4A, 6, 9B, 21A, 23, & 28), which also overlap with the MOAs of common whitefly drench products (e.g., 4A, 23, 28). For optimal efficacy, choose your early season products carefully to allow for rotation into one of these bract safe options later in the crop when color is developing. 🐞 Rotate to a different MOA every 2-3 weeks to prevent whitefly populations from developing resistance. Courtesy of Dr. Carlos Bográn of OHP, the video below does a great job of outlining the importance of scouting and identifying whitefly nymphs and eggs before populations are too big to handle. Wishing everyone a successful start to the poinsettia season!

This episode, my guest is bee expert Kevin Hancock. Kevin has invented a honeybee nest box that’s the only self-regulating honey harvesting system in the world, meaning the bees will dictate how much honey you can take dependent on the environment that year. It’s a way of hosting rather than keeping bees and is an intriguing system. https://zurl.co/T4eb

Did you miss the excellent entoLIVE with Sally-Ann Spence FRES FLS today? Not to worry, you can catch up on YouTube The Downland and Dung Beetle Project: The Story of Onthophagus joannae Dung beetles are vital to healthy soil systems where livestock are present. They perform a variety of ecosystem services, and are in turn, a food source for other invertebrates, reptiles, birds and mammals. Research has now shown that only a quarter of all UK dung beetle species remain in a state of 'least concern' with the rest considered regionally extinct or threatened. We have already lost species of dung beetles entirely due to extinction in the UK. A previously well-established dung beetle to this area, Onthophagus joannae, was noted to be now regionally rare to regionally extinct. One very small extremely vulnerable population was found to be remaining on the calcareous grassland bank near Berrycroft Hub, inhabiting a very small area of considerably less than half an acre. Hear about how one person's accidental restoration of a large area of downland due to a personal obsession to conserve one particular species of dung beetle. https://lnkd.in/e2zghDCA

And we keep telling the story, over and over, to everybody around the world who wants to hear it. Best comment of today: “Normally we get to see big, futuristic farms that are amazing to see but we can’t use as inspiration, because impossible to copy to our own country. Unrealistic. Finally we have seen an example of that it is possible to make something successful out of a small farm!” That’s what we mean: keep it small, keep it community based, keep it local, so also in wild economic storms you can survive. #futurefarming #organicfarming #communityfarming #slowfood
