As #Pride Month draws to a close, Idit Klein, President and CEO of our grantee, Keshet, reminds us that the values central to Pride can serve as a powerful compass for navigating times of division and uncertainty. By engaging in vulnerable conversations, leaning into connection and authenticity, and collectively challenging injustice, we can forge a clearer path toward a more just world. How do we cultivate community diligently working toward collective liberation? 🤔 Open Horizon has been exploring ways to better support Black women and Black gender-expansive leaders in the nonprofit sector and specifically in its foundational programming. After Open Horizon’s Executive Director, D'Lynn Jacobs, participated in a funders call facilitated by Dr. Yanique Redwood , she gained deeper insight into what could be done and who was already doing this important work. A strong connection was formed when D’Lynn met Aaron Goggans, the Dream Gardener of WildSeed Society. Their mutual commitment to #healingjustice and #liberation sparked a powerful reminder for Open Horizon of the importance of interconnection and reciprocity across organizations and individuals in philanthropy, movement and organizing work. As D’Lynn learned more about Wildseed's mission and vision, she was thrilled to find parallels in values across an ecosystem approach to change. The WildSeed Society envisions a world where everyone’s needs are met with dignity and joy—a vision that Open Horizon proudly supports. 🌟 As my new year unfolds, I find myself grappling with the pressure of embodying "her" - the change-maker I aspire to be. Yet, I've come to realize that being "her" is a daily choice, a commitment to living out the values I hold dear. Here's a deeper dive into why I'm passionate and how I plan to enact change 🌟 🔥 Inherited Fire: My passion for advocacy and empathy is a torch handed to me by ancestors who fought tirelessly for freedom. It’s this flame that illuminates my path forward. 🌿 Systemic Roots: The stark inequalities in Black and Indigenous communities aren't coincidental; they're engineered. Acknowledging this truth sharpens my resolve to dismantle and rebuild. ✊🏾 Daily Choice: Embracing "her" – the embodiment of change – is a daily decision, a commitment to embody the values I cherish and strive for a better future. 🛠️ Action for Change: Real change demands more than intention; it requires concrete actions to uproot inequities and lay new, equitable foundations. 🌐 Equitable Realities: My aim is to forge a world where justice and equity are not mere ideals but lived experiences for all, especially Black and Indigenous communities. 🫶🏾 Embrace Vulnerability: As we push for transformation, let's lean into vulnerability. It's in our most open moments that we forge deeper connections and truly grow. Sharing our struggles, fears, and hopes can catalyze collective action and foster a sense of unity in our mission. 📢 Let this be a call to action: to not only embrace vulnerability in ourselves but to encourage it in others. It’s through these genuine connections that we can build a stronger, more compassionate community ready to tackle the systemic challenges ahead. 🌎Together, let's be vulnerable, be brave, and be the architects of a more equitable future. 🌍 #VulnerabilityIsStrength #ChooseChange #LegacyOfCourage #ActForEquity #EmbraceTheJourney #TogetherWeGrow #NewChapter #LegacyOfChange #AdvocacyInAction #EmpathyAndJustice #FreedomFighters #BeTheChange #DailyChoice #IntentionalLiving #CommunityOverEverything #EmbracingChange #VulnerabilityIsStrength #CollectiveHealing #AdvocacyInAction #GrowthThroughConnection #BeTheChange

#ICYMI: I recently sat down with Shaazka Beyerle to discuss her new book "Supporting Nonviolent Action and Movements," published by United States Institute of Peace. I have known Shaazka for several years now, and one of her attributes I love is that she holds the highest respect for civil society and movement actors. This book—and our discussion—highlights how organizations can best support these major societal players (instead of using them for our own ends). In short, "Let movements lead." But what does look like? How do we, practically speaking, support nonviolent action? Watch the #webinar recording to gather the insights Shaazka gleans from her many conversations and interviews with people on the ground. https://lnkd.in/ecdm6WFE

In a world where every voice counts, raising yours means more than just words – it's about protecting lives and shaping the future. 🌍 Our voices are powerful tools for change, advocating for causes that matter and shedding light on issues that need attention. Whether it's speaking up for justice, equality, or spreading kindness, each word has the potential to make a difference. 🎙️ But with great power comes great responsibility. That's why honing our public speaking skills is crucial. By mastering the art of communication, we can effectively share our truths, inspire action, and ignite positive change. Let's empower ourselves and others to speak up, to amplify voices that need to be heard, and to stand tall for what's right. Together, we can create a world where every voice is valued, and every life is protected.

Thrilled to have led a transformative one-day workshop with NALEO, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to facilitating Latino participation in the American political process. With around 20 passionate participants, we dived deep into the art of communication. 🗣️ It's crucial for these dedicated individuals, who tirelessly work with the public, to convey their message with confidence, clarity, and commitment. We tailored our sessions to fit their diverse roles, from making impactful television appearances to conducting team meetings and presenting reports to external organizations. It was an honor to support such an essential cause and help empower these voices to make an even greater impact. #LeadershipDevelopment #EffectiveCommunication #PoliticalEngagement #LatinoLeadership #PublicSpeaking #MediaTraining #NonprofitImpact #CommunityEmpowerment #VoiceCoaching #ProfessionalGrowth #CivicParticipation #EmpoweringCommunities #TeamworkSkills #MakingADifference #NonpartisanAdvocacy #PublicServiceExcellence #ConfidentSpeaking #ClarityInCommunication #CommitmentToChange #NALEOWorkshop

Really! How is recognizing a particular day out of 365 days, nearly 160 years after the event, cause you to learn and engage with local communities. Learn what and engage how and with whom from these communities????? This statement doesn't seem to have much substance. Please respond with something that will make me have to apologize for pre-judging it. What is the outline of your plan for creating sustainable change??
At Freddie Mac, we’re committed to creating sustainable change for racial equity across our industry. By recognizing Juneteenth — the oldest known celebration honoring the end of slavery in the United States — we continue to advance our learning and engagement with local communities.
