This #WomensEqualityDay, we celebrate the work our grantees lead to build a world in which women and all people have freedom and control over their bodies, equal political and economic power, and safety in all aspects of their lives. While Women’s Equality Day marks 104 years since the 19th Amendment granted white women the right to vote, the journey to full equality continues. For decades, women of color, including Black, Indigenous, Asian American and Latina women, have faced systemic barriers to political participation. Yet, research shows that when women are decision makers, communities are healthier, governments function more effectively, and businesses thrive. Coming days after Vice President Kamala Harris made history as the first woman of color to accept a major political party’s nomination for president, this year’s observance is especially powerful.
