🚁 Exciting Technical Milestone from Airbus Helicopters! 🚁 The Airbus RACER, a groundbreaking high-speed helicopter, has exceeded its target speed, achieving an impressive 420 km/h (227 kts) just two months after its maiden flight. This success is attributed to its unique box-wing design, pusher propellers, and advanced aerodynamics, which together reduce drag and enhance efficiency. Optimised for a cruise over 400 km/h (216 kts), 50% faster than a conventional helicopter, it will consume 15% less fuel per distance at 180 kts (333 km/h) than a helicopter at 130 kts (241 km/h), and aim for a 25% cost reduction per distance. Developed with over 40 partners across 13 countries, the RACER promises a blend of speed, cost-efficiency, and sustainability. ☁ 🚁 In case you missed the #RACER in the skies last week ‼ We're thrilled to share some groundbreaking developments from the RACER (Rapid and Cost-Effective Rotorcraft) helicopter demonstrator that just last week performed its first flight in Marignane (🇫🇷). The aircraft flew for about 30 minutes, allowing the #flight test team to evaluate the overall behaviour of the aircraft. 👉 ✔ Airbus Helicopters marks the beginning of a two-year flight campaign. With its innovative design and eco-mode propulsion system, the #RACER aims to achieve a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and demonstrate its capabilities in high-speed flight. 🎤 “With its 90 patents, Racer is the perfect example of the level of innovation that can be achieved when #European partners come together.
