“Tactical patrol is one of the most important tactics during these massive wildfires. Many structures survive the initial pass of the fire but succumb to fire days later. This happened during the Kincade Fire. Fire leadership must ensure that firefighters who are on the ground inspect structures for hidden fire. Driving up and down streets looking for fire isn’t enough. Crews must get out of apparatus and truly inspect every structure.” An important Best Practice that was utilized, to an extent, in the Texas panhandle fires.

🔥 Record Wildfire Season: 1.5M Acres Burned in 2024! 🔥 This year, nearly 1.5 million acres have burned across the U.S., according to the National Interagency Fire Center. With 88 large active wildfires, firefighters are working tirelessly using full suppression strategies on 84 fires. In the Northwest, extreme fire behavior is causing significant concerns and enforcing evacuation orders on 15 fires. 🌲🔥 Nationwide, over 21,700 wildland firefighters are bravely battling the blazes, supported by 25 complex and 5 Type 1 incident management teams, nearly 500 crews, over 1,200 engines, and specialized aviation resources including four Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems. Their efforts are crucial, particularly in California, the Northern Rockies, and the Great Basin. This is about one million acres above the 10-year average number of acres burned, according to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).
