Here are 3 Feature Stories of Students Making a Difference in their Communities: Story 1️⃣ : "Student Volunteers at Local Food Bank" Meet Emily, a high school student who has been volunteering at her local food bank for the past year. Every week, she helps sort and package food donations for families in need. Emily's dedication has inspired her friends to join her, and together they've made a significant impact in their community. "I love seeing the difference we make in people's lives," Emily says. "It's a small act of kindness that can make a big difference." Story 2️⃣ : "Student Starts Environmental Club" Meet David, a college student who was concerned about the amount of waste on his campus. He started an environmental club, which has grown to over 50 members. Together, they organize clean-ups, promote recycling, and raise awareness about sustainability. David's initiative has inspired other students to take action and make a positive impact on their community. "We're not just making a difference on campus, we're making a difference in our world," David says. Story 3️⃣ : "Student Mentors Younger Students" Meet Maria, a high school student who volunteers as a mentor to younger students. She helps them with their homework, provides guidance, and supports their personal growth. Maria's dedication has made a significant impact on her mentees' academic performance and confidence. The Imprint's annual project Who Cares: A National Count of Foster Homes and families is the nation’s first public resource on foster care capacity. The Imprint collects data directly from each state, and combines that with specially obtained federal reports to shed light on two critical questions: How many kids are in #fostercare today? And where are they living? This data collection project takes countless hours of submitting records requests and doing in-depth research. We can't continue this without your support. Organizations can be businesses, nonprofits, houses of worship, clubs, civic associations, neighborhood associations, schools, or government agencies. Who do you know? Spreading dollars. Getting back change. Mecklenburg County's American Rescue Plan Act funds are helping 75 local organizations transform our community. Every cent multiplies, reaching and helping many neighbors. From streets to neighborhoods and homes. That's #TheMeckEffect. Together they're tackling important issues like: - Affordable Housing and Homelessness; - Behavioral Health and Health Equity; - Childcare and Early Childcare Development; - Parks, Environment and Infrastructure; - Workforce and Economic Development. Some of these organizations include Pineville Neighbors Place, which has helped over 190 households with rental support (averaging about $1,100 per household). Additionally, The Summer Camp Fund provides summer camp scholarships to low-income children and so far have helped more than 1,100 kids! Follow the impact at TheMeckEffect.MeckNC.gov
