Today’s budget announcement confirmed deep cuts to critical climate resilience programs, including funding for coastal resilience and sea level rise protections. There is still a way to make progress on equitable climate resilience if the legislature and governor agree to pass a #ClimateBondNow. Climate change won’t wait for better budget years, so we can’t afford to delay funding for wildfire, drought, heat, and flooding protections. We need Governor Gavin Newsom, Senator Mike McGuire, and Robert Rivas to lead on climate and put a climate bond on the November ballot.

SPOTLIGHT | The Pacific Institute continues to highlight key insights from our issue brief on ‘Climate Change and Flooding in Central Appalachia.’ The brief provides an in-depth analysis of how climate change impacts rural water systems, underscoring the urgent need for timely and strategic actions. Dr. Shannon McNeeley and Jackie Rigley of the Pacific Institute state, “Central Appalachia is at a critical juncture, where the escalating impacts of climate change, particularly in the form of severe floods, are jeopardizing water infrastructure and public health and well-being. This issue brief underscores the urgent need for resilient and adaptive strategies to safeguard these communities against these intensifying threats.” Revisit the issue brief: https://lnkd.in/gtDeq7gA Learn more about our enduring efforts in Water and Climate Equity: https://lnkd.in/g_KUVsHy #CentralAppalachia #WaterEquity #WaterResilience #IssueBrief #ClimateResilience #PacificInstitute

Although currently centered on Alaska, the Pacific coast and states west of the Rocky Mountains, 6% of US counties could have material GDP exposure to pluvial flooding, or flooding caused by rainfall, by the 2050s — a number that rises to 60% of counties by the 2090s, with striking intensification in the South, Midwest and Northeast over this period. Quantifying the severity and type of climate physical risks a locality faces can help indicate whether its climate adaptation plans are commensurate with what hazards the area may face, and if enough funding is in place to help the area prepare. Timely excerpt from this wonderful book: “The Inflation Reduction Act ……..put close to $400 billion into clean energy. “ and “ The US Congress finally passed a piece of climate legislation ….. 34 years and 35 days after climate scientist Jim Hansen first testified before the Senate, in 1988, that climate change was real and dangerous”. We can clearly see this danger now in the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. Instead of using this tragedy to spread misinformation and creating chaos, let’s talk about solutions instead. #HurricaneHelene #climatechange #climateresilience #cleanenergy

Floods, heatwaves & drought—climate disasters are forcing families from their homes. Research estimates that more than 216 million people could be displaced as a result of climate disaster by 2050. Read our new blog to learn how climate change intersects with displacement & why we need urgent policy action to protect those affected. https://lnkd.in/eECQswaR This #EarthDay urge your members of Congress to take climate action: https://lnkd.in/eW5yEMtE

I have been telling you for years that we are going see what this report describes as Climate Abandonment resulting in millions of Americans being forced to internally migrate to a safer environment. Well it is starting. If you live in one of the threatened states you might consider your options before you are in crisis.

This week's nor'wester demonstrated just how vulnerable our coastal communities and infrastructure are to severe weather events. Climate change increases the risks to our coastal communities and businesses. More coastal erosion and flooding, rising sea levels and more severe storms all threaten our coastal settlements and infrastructure. To ensure our coastal communities are resilient to climate change, the draft Cayman Islands Climate Change Policy proposes strategies to help with holistically planning and building climate-resilient structures and sites to safeguard people and businesses. If making our coastal settlements and buildings more resilient to climate change is important to you, please help us spread the word about the climate change risks that are facing our islands. Yesterday, we had an engaging conversation with Hans-Martin Fuessel from the European Environment Agency (EEA) about the health effects of climate change. Floods, heatwaves, water scarcity, and mosquito- and bacteria-borne diseases are just a few of the threats we face. The takeaway? We need to act quickly. For more details, read the recently published Climate Risk Assessment for Europe by the EEA: 👇 https://lnkd.in/d-nzkgrv #EuropeanUnion #climatechange #healthrisks

I am happy to see that atmospheric scientists confirm my statements for several years and generally reach the results of my past scientific research. But I am equally worried because they do not pay attention to my scientific recommendations and practical actions of the scientific road map in the new scientific theory to save the world. Undoubtedly, these scientists will be surprised when they know that climate change and global warming have nothing to do with the consumption of fossil fuels, but can be solved very simply. All living things on the planet may be able to resist and adapt to the smoke of fires for some time, but they cannot adapt to the natural suffocation cycle of the planet caused by third-type aerosols and atmospheric lenses. #NewScientificTheoryOfTheEarthNaturalSuffocationCycle #BehavioralPhysicsofNaturalColloidalParticles #meteorology #atmosphere #atmospheric #earthscience #earthobservation #physics #geophysics #science #sciencecommunication #scientist #environment #environmentalscience #climatescience #dataanalytics #scienceeducation #scienceexploration #politics #physics #aerosol #atmospher #airpollution #CALIPSO #CALIOP #Pasadena #ATRAIN #EarthCare #InternationalDayofCombatingSandandDustStorms #opendata #wildfires #SDSDay #EarlyWarningsforAll #delaythegreen #globalwarming #showusthedata #geopoliticalrisk #ipccreport #politik #Copernicus #EarlyWarningsForAll #esg #podcast #climatechangeadaptation #ClimateReport #climatedenial #oceanwarming #climateaction #circulareconomy #WHO #IPCC #UNClimateChange #NOAA #Cop10 #AirPollution #Air #AirReport #NASA #environmental #globalwarming #climatecrisis #COP28 #IAEA #EPA #EPA #ipccreport #globalwarming #climatecrisis #COP26 #temperature #delaythegreen #showusthedata #ActOnClimate #wildfires #data #science #oceans #globalwarming #energy #fossilfuels #coal #diesel #fuel #subsidies #carbondioxide #fossilfuelsubsidies #news #technology #power #leadership #greentech #production #PlanetaryStewardship #Sustainability #ClimateAction #EarthShot #ExponentialChange

🇺🇸 In #LosAngeles, an area frequently affected by wildfires, earthquakes, floods, and extreme heat, the escalating climate crisis has brought increased strains to its communities, necessitating costly adaptations to its fast changing environment. A recent research from The Center for Climate Integrity estimates that taxpayers will need to allocate at least $12.5 billion by the end of 2040 to ensure the protection of county residents. Climate disasters will continue to impact taxpayers and vulnerable communities in Los Angeles County and all over the world. It's time for #BigOil to be held accountable for their role in fuelling the climate crisis and their record breaking profits to contribute in mitigating the consequences of their activities. Read more about The Center for Climate Integrity's new research ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/euVrE5ak
