😍 The last couple of weeks have been filled with volunteer and nonprofit work, and let me tell you...it's heart filling! 😍 📚 From volunteering with WomenTech Network during their annual Global Tech conference to participating in F5's quarterly Volunteer Sprints, where I was able to help Embrace of Celebration to organize and manage documentation. The opportunities and learnings have been abundant. 💥 What I am most excited to share though, is the nonprofit organization that my wife and I made happen after years of talking about wanting to create something that will allow us to give back to the LGBTQ community by providing opportunities for support, service and funding. Our initiatives are about Doing Something Already! ⚡ Do Something Already works towards transformational initiatives to advance equity, opportunity, and justice for LGBTQ+ people in all communities across the Pacific Northwest. Working toward supporting an environment of Joy, Caring, Positivity, Optimism and Understanding. Our Collective uses the tools of Art and Engagement to support and fund our featured initiatives, as well as additional activities throughout the year. Our initiatives include: ➡ MLK Day of Service - providing volunteer opportunities to better community. ➡ DSA Gives Juneteenth - supporting Black owned small businesses. ➡ Julian Wehde Memorial Scholarship - Providing LGBTQ+ youth access to funds to promote art and theater endeavors. ➡ DSA Gives for the Holidays - From feeding families to providing holiday gifts, the DSA Gives is there to help support the community during the holiday season. 🆘 At this time, we are literally just getting started and need your support. While we have great initiatives on our roadmap, none of those can happen without funding. Food insecurity impacts vulnerable populations in various ways, influenced by factors such as race, age, disability, and geographic location. At Feeding the Carolinas, we acknowledge these disparities and are dedicated to advocating for equitable food resources for all. Statistics reveal the following about food insecurity in the U.S.: ▶ 20.8% of the Hispanic community experiences food insecurity ▶ 22.4% of the Black community experiences food insecurity ▶ 27% of the LGBTQ+ community experiences food insecurity ▶ 25% of Indigenous people experience food insecurity ▶ 28% of those with a disability experience food insecurity These disparities highlight the urgent need for targeted interventions and support. WHY IT MATTERS:

What Limits LGBTQIA+ Rights?Anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation undermines rights, limits access to healthcare, free speech and expression, and impacts education. The ACLU tracks the 494 anti-LGBTQ bills currently targeting these communities. There are hundreds of anti-transgender bills this year alone that aim to limit the rights of this population. In the spirit of making a tangible #impact, we are proud to share our guide highlighting the struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQIA+ community. Happy Pride Month! 🌈 As we celebrate Pride Month, it's important to bring awareness to the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. Many individuals find themselves in situations and workplaces where they aren't sure if they will be welcomed, accepted, or even safe. This month serves as a reminder that our support and advocacy should extend beyond these 30 days and be part of our everyday lives. I love seeing the rainbow logos everywhere - it brings me hope. But Pride Month isn't just about one month of recognition. It’s about showing continuous support and being active allies. It's about fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of their identity, feels safe and valued. It's essential to amplify voices across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum and work towards a future where everyone can live authentically without fear. Let's use this month to educate, support each other, and build inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive. 🏳️🌈💪 #PrideMonth #Inclusion #Advocacy

Some thoughts I have about #PrideMonth this year and how organizations can support the LGBTQ+ members of key audiences.

Here is how SAGE, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing issues related to LGBTQ+ people and aging, uses data to reveal unmet needs and ensure their communities are seen. First, SAGE uses data to ensure their programs make an impact by answering questions such as:  -Do our service programs meet the needs of the people they serve? -Has engaging in SAGE programs improved the lives?  -Who aren’t we adequately serving? -What public policies are needed to address the unmet needs?  -Are our training programs effective? Second, they use surveys to gain a better understanding of community satisfaction and uncovering unmet needs. For example, SAGE discovered through intake interviews a high incidence of housing insecurity among its constituents. This led to the creation of the National LGBTQ+ Housing Initiative. Finally, because they collect so much quality data, they are able to help partner organizations answer questions about their community. They worked with the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) to better understanding of its clients’ unmet needs and provide better transportation options.
